The defense...

The defense was ranked throughout the first few games last year. Then we started to face teams who were not offensively challenged for one reason or another.

UF moved the ball at will last year in game 2, they just kept having disaster turnovers.

The defense is good. Some will continue to debate it, but its glaringly better than recent years. I had the feeling last night for the first time in a long time, including BCC, that FAMU had no chance of scoring. They got our DB's on a couple back shoulder throws; their QB was decent, the guy woulda carved us up 11-13

Also, for the first time in a minute, I felt nervous and bad for FAMU players and their parents from a physical standpoint..

Jamal Carter, Tyriq McCord, Perryman, and Grace are big time players.

This post has to be a joke, right?

its all relative, I mean we gave up 400 yds to BCC

Get back at me after the Nebraska and Duke game. Have they improved, yes...But jury is still out

Some of you are just a bunch of children who will never overstand.

The jury is still out, obviously. I'm just not sure how some guys around here that were worshipping at the altar of Offensive Genius Can Win With Anybody Bobby Petrino for MONTHS can be so quick to say they still suck. I don't care who was hurt for Louisville, it wouldn't have tempered the neverending predictions of Petrino DESTROYING a D'Onofrio defense. As was just mentioned, at worst reserve making a call until at least after Nebraska.

I think we have enough athletes on D to overcome the schematic deficiencies for the first time, which doesnt mean we're gonna be the 2000 ravens, but a D that can support an improving offense (which is my bigger concern)

Let's discuss in a month how improved this Defense truly is. Those numbers are bs.

I'm not going to make a judgment on the defense after these two games but they arent getting constantly ripped apart against anyone and everyone like the past few years. And for those who were paying attention, Dno actually made some adjustments last night which shocked me. He had some designed safety and corner blitzes that we havent seen very much of. The D actually went into nickle on more occasions than normal. And it seemed like Dno actually tried to have the dbs in more man and press coverage than normal. Our offense straight up sucks but I think the verdict is still out on the defense. Ill be very interested to see how they do in the coming weeks.

Rank through 2 weeks, playing Olive Garden and obviously crappy Famu.

Total defense #8 at 225 ypg.

This is with the offense sputtering.

Please go back to spazzing out because the true freshmen qb who didn't practice with the team until August isn't Tom Brady yet.

Please go back to drinking your Golden Koolaid. We played FAMU and that is why the numbers are inflated. You sound just like Al himself trying to sell everyone that we have a top 10 defense

If you can't admit that the defense has looked vastly improved through 2 games you are just being hard headed. They aren't great but much improved.

Will be the first to admit it, however when we see Trent Harris and Tyriq McCord lined up covering slot receivers you tend to realize that our staff is beyond clueless on how to run a defense and will not change for the sake of the problem. Courtel, Calvin, Thurston, Fentress, Dallas and Jamal have all been major upgrades. We have talent but our staff continues to fail on how to get the most out of them.

@TheStateOfTheU hey I've seen Dolphin LB's covering slot receivers today and nobody said a word. But D'Nofrio catches **** when he does it..

I will wait til mid season before I begin to tout the defense. Many fell for it early last year with people pumping the D up early, I remember people breaking out rankings and all, then as season wore on the slow descent began, 30+ ranked, 50+ ranked, 60+ ranked, 70+ ranked, 80+ ranked, unusually same guys touting would stop bringing up the ranking...

Dorito and whoever is happy can check back with me after Nov preferably but atleast 6 games in. If we our still in top ten then I will be happy to congratulate!

It is way too early to tell... They looked better against UL but UL also was missing their top 2 offensive threats and had a brand new qb... He was accurate and would have had at least an extra 100 yards had his wideouts not dropped some easy passes... UL may be a 7 win team this year... Come on FAMU? Really famu? We should definitely see something next week but our defense won't be tested until Nebraska...

Maybe the defense is better, it should be, we have more talent at key positions. Doesn't change the fact that it's still terrible thanks to poor coaching decisions and schemes. Doesn't change the fact that everyone knows it should be even better, and people can see it. DE's dropping into coverage? GTFO.
AIDS is "better" than it used to be too when dudes would fall out 5 minutes after their diagnosis. But at the end of the day, it's still AIDS.

The defense...still sucks.

Love it! LOL! The defense, the offense, the entire coaching staff is so over their heads. 3/23 on 3rd down conversions. Dead last in the FBS. 4th & 1 or 3rd & 1, don't matter, we have 6 guys at line of scrimmage and 5 guys 10 yards back protecting the grass! :troll-dancing::moon2:

THE DEFENSE

Miami's 41-7 win over Florida A&M wasn't a shutout (duh, given the other team had seven points).

But it should have been.

Saturday night marked the first time since Miami's 2010 meeting against Florida A&M that the Hurricanes defense gave up zero points. FAMU's lone TD on Saturday came on a botched punt snap.

Miami's 25 rushing yards allowed in Week 2 were the Hurricanes' fewest since Cent. Fla. got only four yards against them in 2008.

The Hurricanes have held opponents under 100 yards in both passing and rushing in the same game only twice since 2008, and both times, it was against FAMU

I really hope Tracy Howard turns it around.

Agreed. His attitude has been very concerning through the first two games.

Him and Stacy have been quite the MIA through first two games. They both need to get focused. No need for their slump.

I think they'll turn it around. Both had great seasons last year. They didn't forget how to play overnight.
