The Complete Lack of a Running Game

Part of good running is to deceive the defense, everything we do is well documented in film and in experience - at least with Jed Fish, the defense had to be aware that anything could happen. Against this offense, they probably have all the plays on a wrist band. WTF how about an occasional end around, reverse, something different - Miami was not built on coal miner football.

On the last drive, Yearby caught a short pass and ran straight for the sideline. I know that he wanted to get the timeout, but I thought that he had lots of running room had he cut to the middle of the field. Can't blame him for seeking the timeout, but I have to wonder if he could have turned that pass into a 30 yard gain.

We dont run screens to the backs anymore. I dont get it. It would help slow down those lineman shooting gaps and getting up field some

Our o line is horrible, but Yearby seems to have no vision. There were holes there. He just seemed to run where there was none. He needs to learn how to plant and get north. He is always getting tackled and falling towards the sidelines. Those extra yards falling forward are sometimes the difference between winning and losing.

It's interesting bc usually he does have pretty good vision and goes forward for yards.

However, last night I agree. A lot of times there wasn't much there, but there were other times where he was just missing the hole or was cutting the wrong way and going directly into traffic. He was zigging when he should have been zagging.

That said, I like him as a rb and usually he makes the right play. Last night was just an off night unfortunately

Exactly he does look good most of the time. But against a team with the talent and speed that an Fsu team the holes open and close quicker. And like Lu said the angles change. He can run toward the sidelines and turn the corner against Cincinnati of fau, but against the big boys, no dice. Against fast defenses he has to understand cut north and south not east and west.

Can we get back to running out of a pro set with a ***** fullback leading the way?

It's like we're in the Twilight Zone. FSU in the eye running downhill and we running out of shotgun.....wtf is going on out there!

Just to think some posters do not think we need olinemen in this upcoming class smh, even the linemen we recruited last year is suspect. This one is on golden for losing out on key recruits and on coley for not hitting fsu with a hurry up in the redzone and not running proper running plays against FSU. Call me crazy but Kaaya's inability to leave the pocket works against us, defenses are using that against us to the extreme. Would like to see us go after a pass first mobile qb for here on out.

I'm so glad we lost Duke. Look how many games we are winning now that we don't have that fumbling loser with us!

Coley. He knew going in Gall is a liability on zone run blocking from the shotgun. The Cincinnati game proved that. He should have run from the I formation or Pistol more. I had lots of Makers Mark but I'm pretty sure Yearby's only gains came from the Pistol.[/QUOTE

What does the formation have to do with Gall's ability to zone block?

You couldn't be anymore on point. In the 5 games we've played this season I pretty much predicted all our draw plays and delayed handoffs. Most of those occurring on 2nd & 7+... Coley is too predictable and uncreative to pick up good rushing totals against above average defenses.

We need a rb with weight out there. Fsu was chompin at the bits every time yearby touched the rock. Gus the bus was sorely missed last night. Not to mention not a single carry for Gray in weeks.

100% on Al Golden and James Coley. they are the leaders of the offense, they set the mindset and philosophy. they want a ***** offense so we got one. Harbaugh on the other hand can immediately go to Michigan, change the culture and demands and have a tough physical football team. Does Michigan have better players than Miami?

just dont understand why.......Walter Tucker is on the team....We never use him.

Add to it...we zone block..with two of the fattest, slowest guards we ever have...they dont help on the dt long enough...and their tripping over themselves even trying to get to the second level...Our guards currently arent zone blockers...so....were having trouble...we dont run any of the plays we ran with duke hich is crazy...its like coley through them away....the only run plays we run are delayed hand off...or some draw....

its mostly play calling, and scheme...but coley didnt even try...their plan going in was to pass 100 times....

Yearby needs to be put in a position to succeed. His ability to change direction in the open field is a major mismatch. I would like to see him used more as a pass catching RB. Did you see his one pass pattern on his catch? He made the linebacker almost fall over in the other direction on his route. He needs to be put 1 on 1 against linebackers in the open field all day. In regards to the running game, if there's no hole, there's no hole.

We spent 2 to 3 years giving Golden the benefit of the doubt and blaming Dorito for this teams failures. Golden refused to make a change. At this point if, if any part of this team sucks, the blame falls squarely on Golden
