Off-Topic The Car Thread

Doing research. V2h is in the cyber truck and all GM/ ford evs. I’ve read Tesla has it in all new y/3 vehicles but won’t turn on due to cutting into power wall sales. There are workarounds but I’m not sure the price and if they void warranties. V2g is the big dream as it allows someone to generate revenue being a battery source for the power grid.

I have a long range 3. My commute is short. Been capping the charge at 50%. Everything I read say these types of Lit Ion batts love being at a 50% but dealers say cap at 80% because the benefit is negligible.

I never use more than 15% batt a day.

Just curious if anyone else used less than 20% daily.
I do. My 3 is recommended to get to 100% daily as long as it's not sitting at that level for days. I don't drive much

Sounds like the LFP battery. Those are good for 100% charges. They discontinued those within the last year because the batteries were imported.

What is the range on your battery?

According to initial Cox Automotive estimates, sales of electric vehicles reached a record 146,332 in August—a record 9.9% of total sales. Source: Cox Automotive

GM v2h is limited to 30amp.

Then October hits with no credits and that drops in half.

The real key moving forward will 100% be the Vehicle to House/Grid solution. Currently, an EV has more than enough batteries to run most houses for 2-3 days. Imagine that in South Florida, when hurricanes hit (assuming the car survives). House Battery to do the same is almost the cost of the car.

Cybertruck is the only one as of today that supports this for a real house solution of around 100amps. Rivian is coming soon with 48amps (more than enough for most). Have two cars, double the output... For some (@SpikeUM ), you could have 4 and run a house for weeks IF they support it.

FYI
V2G means you get to feed the grid and make money.
V2H means you only feed the house when power is out.

Wasn't that one of the Ford electric truck's selling points too?

Was not aware of this 179 deduction:

That is going away so you may need to move on it this year. I believe the new X has the v2h BUT it isn’t allowed as of today.

Let me know if the 179 isn’t going away as I may do the same later this year with a large EV

I will double check over the weekend, but I dont *think* this is going away, because its a "business equipment" deduction, not an EV related one.
