The Bank (Offensive Edition) 1/13

I knew this update was going to be tough when we started talking about the freshman. Clearly they are going high school development in 2026 and running most of this back. I have wondered if they are concerned about a mass exodus from the younger guys if they bring a bunch of other players in and it looks like that could be possible

We talked about the defense yesterday, but here is the latest on Miami's offensive strategy in the Transfer Portal.

- I don't get the sense it's Ty Simpson or bust. They are working multiple angles at quarterback and it's obviously the main focus other than winning the sixth national championship. I'm expecting the unexpected.

- I previously thought Josiah Thompson (South Carolina) would be in this class, but it appears we may be moving in another direction. One possibility is adding a guard and moving Matt McCoy to tackle.

- The expectation remains that Mark Fletcher, Jr. returns to school. If he does, I wouln't anticipate major changes in the running back room.

- Both receiver commits (Vandrevius Jacobs and Cam Vaughn) appear locked in despite the uncertainty at quarterback. The staff is ecstatic about both.

- I expect Miami to continue to monitor the Portal for an impactful TE. While a pure blocking TE is an option, don't be surprised to see even more unbalanced lines to take advantage of the Canes' deep stable of young offensive linemen.

- The early freshmen arrivals look the part. One source said, "I'm glad Somourian Wingo is on scout team and not on Indiana." He's had some big days. Some other names mentioned were Jackson Cantwell, Keyshawn Stancil, Camdin Portis, and JJ Dunnigan. "These guys look freakier than the guys preparing to play for a national championship."
Stancil will be in the two deep rotation . What other qb names are we looking at . Time to steal someokes Qb

So…

We might lose Fletcher (happy for the kid either way).
No new names on QB (in Mario we trust…hopefully).
Bell still “iffy”.
No word on Spurlin.
New WRs content for now.

It's not the number, which we are still significantly short of the 8-10. It's the QB position and true game changers.

We have Carter, Vaughn, Jacobs, Thornton.. that's 4 guys. I like them all but well short of the 8-10. I'll add a kicker so that gets us to 5. Still well short of your number and don't have a QB.
Well who did you want? There are no game changers in the portal

Maybe no Thompson because of Seaton?

We have been thru this before. Like Rodgers said relax. Lets wait until the portal is closed and see where Miami is at. Would be great to get another experienced star QB. For me its not the end of the world if we do not get a QB. Mario recruited the guys on the roster for a reason. Chambliss was not the starter at Miss the #1 guy got hurt.
