The Bank (Defensive Edition) 1/12

Yeah, I know he’s bag chasing. How are you certain that is the reason Miami isn’t pursuing? Maybe it is, as that can be considered a deterrent. Just not certain that’s the primary reason for no pursuit.
I'm not saying he's bag chasing. I'm saying that the money he will receive is simply too much for us to engage with him.

It's been said, and I've assumed this after my post, that we looked for a player with a specific skillset to fill a role and that we could get one for cheaper than Perich, who can do everything at a very high level.

can someone explain how MO Taure is getting another year? Isn't he already a 6th or 7th year guy? lol
his freshman year was 2019 and he played in two games (RS)
2020 year was 2020 was covid so it's a blank year
his RS FR year was 2021
His RS so 2022 (didn't play because of knee injury suffered in 2021
His 2023 year his actual RS JR
2024 year missed all again because of another knee injury
2025 year RS SR
2026 covid year make up

Having Smith and Toure comeback, might be a cheat code. We know how good those 5-6 year players be sometimes. They be having that grown man strength.

and in today's list of things I don't understand

Just focusing on the defense since that's the original intent of the thread:

DB -- I understand why we would feel comfortable with our DB room assuming we retain all the key pieces. I get we recruited well there the past two cycles, and young players can step in at DB and have an instant impact. S

LB -- HUGE if Toure returns (@DMoney no Chase Smith waiver? He, too, was injured a lot). I'd still like one more because Toure and Bobby Washington have a history of injury, and all of our LBs have been nicked up at some point. Hetherman is a LB specialist, so I'll defer to him on the position group's CFP readiness. But as a casual observer, the two deep looks weak. Washington, Bonner and Wylie have zero production. Pruitt flashed a bit but is a hybrid not every down OLB. CFP winners don't use freshmen LBs.

DL -- We need at least 2 DL (I'd personally take 3). Should be 2 DTs or 1 DE and 1 DT, depending on if Blount stays at DE or moves to DT full time. Again, we're fine for starters. But we rotate a lot based on run versus passing downs so you need a reliable 2-deep. And you need to account for injury. We were super lucky this season, with only Lowe out long-term. You can't expect that in 2026. CFP winners don't use freshmen DL.

You got Moten, Scott, Blount plays inside, if Carter comes. Not many guys are signing up to be a 5th DT. And we got jones who will be in year 3 and they probably feel stancil can provide some snaps if needed

We need another. We've lost Blay, Simpson and Russell on an already thin position group. Carter is our Simpson replacement at best. He has 1 tackle the whole year against an FCS team for Taint.

I loved Jones when we landed him and I don't want to write off anyone. But he's done absolutely nothing in 2 years. I get he's behind some talented guys. Yet it was Simpson and even Dylan Russell who got the snaps. So while you hope for the best, you certainly do not plan on him or the Freshmen to be in the two deep.

If Stancil become that dude, awesome. But he should earn the reps against CFP level competition.

Scott was a very productive player at Nickel. Thomas was probably in line with the WRs we are bringing and Thompson in in terms of production. There is no issues really with the 3 guys we brought in.

There are a lot of top names already gone from the portal.

DLine luckily is still looking decent in portal so I have faith there. Especially with returning production we have

I really think Lb was a big whiff though. Like i said staff better have Wiley and Bobby ready to play. If they are I’m good, but they didn’t play at all this yr. Te I never liked the plan from the get go especially after losing Schott.

Qb though is ultimately all that ends up mattering really. If they pull out a qb then it’s all good. It entirely comes down to that
We are actually good at linebacker ! You just don’t trust the room! Big Mo coming back and we have popo then Wiley and a whole bunch of hungry dudes behind him

I actually would say I trust the coaches to actually play the youth more than I actually distrust the youth to play well and develop by the end of the season….

We don’t need another DT. No proven guy is coming here to be 4th or 5th DT. We will be fine with what we have

Have we had any contact with OKSt Edge Wendell Gregory? Or is it all on Herring if we miss Damon Wilson? I really would think Gregory would be a nice Add.

And again look into JMond Tapp character and **** since he portals yearly, but he had an EXCELLENT season. Would be a high floor add at SDE in a similar role to Blount. And don’t think you’d have to guarantee all that much PT.

We are actually good at DT, Moten can still come back and we got Blount and Scott! Don’t forget we have depth behind them. They just lacked size this year but are coming.
