I think you approach finish of recruiting with a minds eye on the January portal period.
We need to budget tor IMO:
-Big time QB
-Portal TE-quality
-Portal WR-one veteran solid piece. Have 1 eye on Chance and Carr potential portal so may be necessary to add 1 veteran to young group.
-One bigtime portal OL
-Portal DE-veteran with producitvity
-Portal DT-veteran with size/producitivity
-Portal safety veteran
That's 7 minimum portal players, and we will probably sign more than tha, but those 7 will be expensive.
I wouldn't mind seeing us hit 1-2 home runs at portal and get more in the groove of bringing overall portal numbers down. In short, maybe a 6-7 man class instead of 12-15….This is of course if starting caliber players don't leave, which unfortunately is happening everywhere.
-Not sure which route we'll go at QB… I agree I lean toward us adding one, maybe Bailey…But I think way too early to say a lock
- TE, only if it is bonafide. Schott and Lofton are a stud tandem imo.
- WR…Agree need 1, because we probably lose 1, maybe even more.
- OL…I don't know, unless one of SJ/R-Rod/Nico (year 2, year 5, year 3) aren't ready to start, I wouldn't mind seeing us finally holding off a year at center…Now if Bell leaves, we may need a starting caliber tackle. But the reports have been good on Oku (listed backup LT) and Kinsler since day 1.
- I agree DL will be our number one portal haul next year. 1-2 DT, and a veteran DE to go along with our sophomore and juniors because have to think Bain(along with Mes) is gone if he stays healthy.
- LB, I think it depends on who stays…Not urgent at the moment, but have to see how many of C.Smith/BWash/Bonner stay.
- DB…I think we PROBALBY bring in a safety, but if someone emerges from Day/Fitzgerald/Wallace, or if a corner moves to stay on the field. Corners not needed.
- I think a portal kicker is a lock, especially since we aren't hearing any HS names.
