The Bank (7/2)

I told someone this. This offense can be more efficient than last year. Not explosive… just more efficient. This O-Line will be up for the Moore award playing in front of Beck, because unlike Cam… they’ll know where Beck is at all times. And this year’s WR group is 10x more talented. Not experienced… just talent. When talking about speed, quickness, route running, and footwork leading to YAC.

How can you possibly be more efficient than first in America by a full yard on a per play basis and one of the 5 best on 3rd down of the last decade?

If the offense is “more efficient” this season, Shannon Dawson might be the head coach of the Dolphins next year. It’s just incredibly, almost impossibly unlikely.

Doesn’t mean it can’t/won’t be very good and good enough to win the ACC. But we gotta be real here. The offense last year was borderline historic. We got almost 8 yards every time we snapped the football. Sure, a lot of that was due to explosives but the efficiency was other-worldly. There’s a massive chance that comes back to earth a little bit this year.

The key to this season will be the defense, and how well Beck protects the ball. If he only throws 7 picks all year like Cam did, and the defense can get into the top 30–40 nationally, it’ll be a really successful year.

The amount of people in this fanbase that would rather have a worse offense if it meant running the ball more often, and somehow think that would be more efficient, is seriously astounding.

...Does that make Mario a good coach suddenly?

…but this season will tell us a lot about how much staying power he has as the coach of this program.
I just don’t think he’s a particularly good coach. Subpar on game day though improved last year. Very good but not elite recruiter. Not better than average at evals and development. He tries and works hard but I don’t need another season to draw the conclusions I have though I understand that people want to believe it’s going to be ok and so they’ll logic it as best they try.

BS that defense was beyond porous. There are other words to describe that defense. Just not allowed to use those words on here.
He chose the DC and his staff. After he chose the previous DC and his staff. He chose the high school and portal players. It falls back on him at this point. Some of you guys on here, and I don’t know that’s you so don’t please personalize it, but some guys here are running out of previous staffs and circumstances to blame.

I see you added the qualifier to your post. How often is the goal post going to move for "winning"? We won 10 games last year with a historic offense and the rallying cry was "hey, get back to winning 10+ games and we'll be fine". Now it's how we win 10+ games that's relevant? I'm not disagreeing with you but solely winning 10+ ain't gonna cut it, it seems.

How did that 10 actually feel when we stumbled to 1-3 finish to the year? They way it went kept it from being as impactful as it should have been be been.

LMAO

This won't be everyone's favorite update, but I need to give it like I get it.

Bottom line- I don't get the sense we're headed for a blockbuster two weeks. The message I'm getting is that the plan is to win key some battles, go into the season with a healthy class, perform on the field, and then take it to the next level with flips.

We saw that happen in the Class of 2024, and we saw it go the other way in 2025. So we'll see. This is a unique era in college football. There's a sense that if they go for broke now, they'll be in a worse position down the stretch and potentially create issues within the roster. But they also need to go into the season with a high-enough floor. Here's the latest:

- I continue to get confidence on RB Derrek Cooper (Chaminade). He remains the top target on the board.

- I"m getting less confidence on WR Tristen Keys (Hattiesburg, MS) than last week. As we've said, this is a high-profile recruitment with every school thinking they have a chance. Miami will continue to push until the end.

- Nobody has any clue where WR Calvin Russell (Northwestern) is headed. One of the more up-in-the-air recruitments in a while.

- The Canes are battling hard on S Blake Stewart (Atlanta). Clemson is a top contender but it's not a foregone conclusion by any means. He is a big priority.

- OL Breck Kolojay (IMG) is continuing with his process. He was pretty candid in his last interview with on3 that he's monitoring NIL deals and weighing different factors between Miami, Georgia and USC. That's a very professional process and Miami is battling.

- Miami has a good chance to flip CB Brody Jennings (Jacksonville). They have coveted him throughout this process.

- TE Heze Kent (Brunswick, GA) is still communicating with our staff. Texas and Florida are in there but Miami is alive. TE Zachery Turner (Dallas) is trending away after SMU took its financial commitment to another level.

- The Canes are also in the mix for DL Bryce Perry-Wright (Atlanta). That one is up in the air and will be decided over the next few days.

- On the football side, there is huge confidence from those observing workouts. They believe this is the best, most complete roster we've had in the Cristobal era by a good amount. I continue to hear rave reviews about Carson Beck's arm talent and overall skillset.
Thanks. However we have heard many times that miami's roster is the most complete one since..... until it actually happens on the field and translates to W's and a major bowl win, I will hold and reserve my judgment.

My hope is we beat Notre Dame and the gators and win the acc to maybe finish at an elite level in recruiting by the end of year. Go canes!
