The Athletic: Sam Leavitt possibly to Miami or TTU

When Beck landed at Miami, Mario said the biggest factor in pursuing him was his experience playing on large stages/in big games.

Leavitt is the only QB currently in the portal that has played in the CFP.
Makes sense. I wouldn’t be mad at him being our pick. He’s a good qb and can flourish in our system. It’s not like he's DJU.

Why? Mark Fletcher had the same injury i believe.
Yes Mark had the same injury and he was not available to practice until fall. Sam is a QB who will need time to not only learn the system but build chemistry with the receivers.

The time missed with the team will prevent chemistry building and him becoming comfortable in the system. We saw a the direct impact of a QB not having enough time in the system. According to Beck it wasn’t until the SMU game that he was comfortable in the system, Miami can not afford to take that risk again next season.

Now look at the difference with a healthy Cam. He was able to build chemistry with the guys and that was evident from the first game at Florida.

Did Beck’s injury disqualify him?
Beck was the clear best QB in the portal and to be honest if you do it all over again I would have picked Mendoza over him because of the injury.

Beck not having that practice time was the direct result of his game against Louisville. You can see him pressing because he wasn’t comfortable in the system. Again he said himself he wasn’t comfortable in the system until the SMU game. This is a QB who had 26 starts on a high level football team before coming to Miami and it took him until the 8th game of the season to be comfortable in the system due to missing the spring and summer.

Why would Miami put themselves in that position again when there are just as good and better options available?

Sam Leavitt does not fit Dawsons system, he is not accurate enough. Leavitt has a 61.4% career completion percentage.

Here are the completion percentage for every QB Dawson has started, for a full season, as a P4 OC.
  • 2012 West Virginia: Geno Smith 71.2%
  • 2014 West Virginia: Clint Trickett 67.1%
  • 2021 Houston: Clayton Tune 68.2%
  • 2022 Houston: Clayton Tune 67.3%
  • 2023 Miami: Tyler Van Dyke 65.8%
  • 2024 Miami: Cam Ward 67.2%
  • 2025 Miami: Carson Beck 74.5%
TVD is the least accurate QB Dawson has ever started for a full season and he is more accurate than Leavitt, let that sink in for a moment. Now add in the injury, HARD PASS!!

Just because I'm lazy. What were those QBs % when not in Dawson's system?

Did Dawson's offense help them become more accurate based on easy throws?

I do know 'Cam went from 64 to 66 to 67%.

Tyler went from 62 > 63>66

Can we stop using completion percentage as a measurement for accuracy, please?

It doesn’t matter the measurement, he is not an accurate quarterback and from what has been shown on the field and what he has said, Dawson prefers accurate quarterbacks.

Unless you have consistent film and can show his inaccuracies, the point you're trying to make is unsupported. Added to that, Clayton Tune was Dawsons QB at Houston - come on now.

Also, you can't go and use a stat to make a point and then say "It doesn't matter". Leavitt has plus scrambing ability and is absolutely accurate enough to play for this football team.
