The All Carolina Conference Continues...

Although somewhat far from Miami and a bit cold during the game, I thought the city was pretty nice and fun and the committee did a good job with the activities leading up to the game.

Agreed, although the security situation at the stadium entrances was a joke. I personally don't even have an issue with Charlotte (as some of "centralized" geographic point) getting a disproportionate amount of the games. But ALL of them? C'mon man!

I just find it ridiculous that the ACC sells itself as having all these major markets up and down the ENTIRE East Coast yet refuses to ever have this game in NY or Boston or Philly/DC once in a while in addition to a healthy rotation of Florida cities. This isn't even a shortsighted complaint about favoring Clemson here on my part but just more of one about the basketball powers that be in the ACC making all the football decisions too.

If you consider Syracuse to the north and Miami to the south, Charlotte is pretty much the middle ground for the conference. Still, I wish they'd move it around more.

I agree it would be nice to have a rotation of a few cities to get various markets involved

I agree with the stadium comment. It was absolutely ridiculous getting into that game. I have never gone to a professional sporting event with so little organization at the entrance. It was actually dangerous. Hopefully they get that sorted out for next year.

Living in NY, I cannot imagine having that game in December up in the northeast. The weather is so unpredictable - it was FREEZING up here that weekend. The only way to have it in the Northeast would be in a covered facility.

People will cite weather as a way to immediately dismiss all the cities north of Charlotte that I mentioned (to get it occasionally- not as part of a rotation) as if Charlotte is somehow always Miami-like in December.

In my ideal world, it'd just rotate between Charlotte and Florida sites and then toss in a northeastern site like once every 4 or 5 years. Then do the reverse with the ACC Tourney in hoops and be more northeastern-centric with that and maybe have it in Florida every 5th year.

That component of my suggestion is the most debatable but I will say that it's still football and that ACC teams like BC and Pitt and Vag Tech and UVag and soon to be Notre Dame all play in those conditions the week prior. And there are bowl games held in cold weather outdoor venues. That is why I'd only suggest doing it like every 4th or 5th year though as a UNC vs NC State Championship Game in Boston or New York in a blizzard is not something you'd want to regularly risk.

But you know they didn't pick Charlotte because it was central geographically, they picked it because they view it as central to the leagues identity. The people in charge very much view the ACC as being about Carolina with some other places thrown in to generate more revenue. This is short sighted on the part of the ACC.

Oh, for sure. I think it could eventually come back to bite the ACC in the *** since their biggest cash cows all play outside the state of North Carolina.

If people think they didn't choose this with a ton of analytics being the deciding factor, I would guess you probably believe some of the next few things.

We never landed on the moon. 911 was an inside job. The Earth is flat. Chem trails are real.

This was a business decision that took into account geography as well as viability of crowd size for when it isn't a nearby matchup.

I would prefer they mix it up as going to the same place time and again, providing we get into the game as much as I want, would become somewhat stale. I like new venues and places to go. I understand the reasoning behind it, so whatever.

I think you're giving college athletics bureaucrats too much intellectual (and ethical) credit here. These are the same geniuses that had the hoops tourney in the beautiful metropolis of Greensboro for years and also ranted and raved against the "analytics" supporting a college football playoff system for yearssss......until they didn't.

Both correct statements...

It took into account ACC officials getting matchups they want.

Charlotte is a nice town and did a good job. The stadium experience was pretty awful, especially getting in. Playing outdoors in December in Charlotte blows. Most importantly, the conference is bigger than the state of North Carolina and there should be at least some rotation. Holding the game at the same place for 15+ years straight (with a brief interlude due to a political dispute), is nonsense and is a statement that the Carolina mafia is not letting go of their control easily.

You’re assuming the ACC organization (not the schools) are a model of efficiency, competently run, highly effective and results driven with minimal bureaucratic overhead and virtually no cronyism, especially when it comes to the “locals”.

That’s what you’re assuming.

We were there & thought getting into the stadium was ridiculous & also that it was dangerous for fans. Is the case with Panthers games? Never heard what the problem was but they need to get it fixed if they're continuing to host the ACC Champ game.
