We get screwed by officials from other conferences. Big 12 official Terry Porter screwed us big time in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. A game we had won before he threw a flag an hour after the play, well it seemed like an hour. In 1988 we got screwed at ND when the official thought we had to score on 4th down but we made enough for the first down.
Key Controversies of the 1988 ND Game
  • The Cleveland Gary Fumble: With approximately seven minutes left in the fourth quarter and Notre Dame leading 31-24, Miami had the ball at the Notre Dame 11-yard line. Miami's Cleveland Gary caught a pass and was hit at the one-yard line, where he lost control of the ball. Officials ruled it a fumble, and Notre Dame recovered. Miami supporters still argue that Gary had crossed the goal line for a touchdown or that his knee was down before the ball came loose.
  • An Uncalled Penalty: In the popular ESPN 30 for 30 documentary, "Catholics vs. Convicts," it was pointed out that an earlier touchdown catch by Notre Dame's Andre Brown that made the score 31-30 was arguably not a catch because Brown never had control of the ball, a fact Miami players and coaches agreed (Andre Brown was a Cane they mean Derek Brown)
Notre Dame went on to win the game 31-30, and the loss was the only blemish on Miami's 11-1 season, which ended with Notre Dame winning the National Championship. The game's outcome continues to be a subject of debate among fans and players of both teams.
Both cost, oneNC the other the chance at the NC that ND won.
The article comment is wrong, even JJ said often that Gary had the first down:
As Gary fell, the ball popped loose and Notre Dame linebacker Mike Stonebreaker recovered, ending the Miami drive. Miami argued, however, that the play was over before the ball popped loose and that the Hurricanes should have had a first down.

No no no!!!! Saying you got screwed by the refs is for losers according to someone’s coach!

Acc is too stupid to realize there is only one team in the conference that can do damage in the playoffs. Yet they refuse to protect them. ***** this conference man. We are going to get left out of the playoffs because Lightfoot got a personal foul for trying to hold a QB up. Go back and watch that play. That referee could not wait to throw that flag. That boy was **** near giddy to insert himself into the result of the game. Trash conference man. You think Clemson or any of the Tobacco road teams would have ever seen that flag? **** no!

The ACC hates Miami without question. Bunch of wine and cheese preppy boys from the Carolinas, I don’t give a **** what anyone says it’s 100% guaranteed.

I left the "S" off official..fixed it. Freudian mistake as last saturday head ref was horrible. Its hard to win a National Championship and having 5 is great but to think we could easily have 7 or more. 8 if we had played Oklahoma instead of the team we had beat...fsu. fau scored 2 points and Oklahoma just 13. That year we beat fsu and dominated 11 games except we lost the first game of 2000 to Washington. The next year with basicly the same roster we went 12 and zero via the best squad in NCAA history. The BCS picked fsu to play Oklahima when we were definitely better then them.

Acc too stupid or stubborn with their hate for us to realize we’d bring them more money than anyone else in playoffs.

Yeah, people were in their cars driving home when that crooked SOB threw that flag.
