The 2015 NFL Draft could be Al's most glaring indictment

The indictment will not be that so many players were drafted, but that ultimately many of those players will perform much better than their draft grades and selection positions. I am convinced Duke, PD, Perryman, and Flowers will be impact players in the NFL.

They are impact players on Miami's team as well.

I feel like we've wasted Flowers' & Duke's careers here and that makes me sad. Wish that by some miracle we could have them another season.

Wut. Flowers has started every game at Miami and Duke has the career all purpose yards mark as a Junior, even missing like 5 games. What would you have done differently with those two so as not to "waste their careers"?

Win football games.

YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME

This is what I'm referring to. Those guys, who are undoubtedly special, will probably come into the program and leave without having won a single significant football game. So... yeah.... Wut.

Give them a good coaching staff that would allow them to be on a team that has a chance for success. I doubt Duke values career all purpose yards more than a natty.

I doubt Duke Johnson values a natty more than playing in the league.

Playing in a national championship or any big time bowl provides him with more exposure and better competition to show just how good he is. That then grants him a higher paycheck with a higher draft selection. You won't got too high when you play on a team with a soft schedule and the team struggled no matter how good you are. Go look at Alfred Morris. If he was on a team that was 10-2, he doesn't get drafted in the 6th round.

Everyone knows how good Duke Johnson is. This is just fluff. He's going 2nd/ 3rd round whether Miami has 6 wins or 10

If you don't think Duke came here with the idea of winning meaningful games, you're outside of your mind. I believe that was the point of Swagger's comment.

Duke came to Coral Gables with his chief goal being to restore the U to it's prior standing in college football.

He said as much on numerous occasions before he signed here in 02/2012.

Regardless of the W-L record of Miami during his stretch at Miami, Randy Duke Johnson should be looked upon heroically and within mythic terms by all Canes fans

He deserved a much better fate...

from a talent perspective this team should be 6-0 or 5-1 with maybe a close loss vs Nebraska

instead we lose 3 games by double digit points. its pathetic

Nebraska is an atrocious, one dimensional team that this roster (from a talent perspective) should obliterate, especially given the performance of our freshman QB (who was the biggest question mark before the season).

Coaching man. Coaching and the defensive scheme. Team is way more talented than it's record. Very depressing.

Saw a projection of 4 guys taken in the first 50 (one NFL scout). Think that is a reach, but the fact people keep saying we do not have enough talent is laughable.

This team should be 5-1 / 6-0 based on personnel. Fat Al - gettin less out of more.

If he is back next year the admin has quit on the football program.

How are we supposed to obliterate Nebraska on the road when our defensive tackles are the biggest weakness on the team? For all the cute skill position guys, we still suck at that vital position. I saw a very astute post from a Georgia Tech fan last week on another Canes board, saying the Canes scheme against them was very familiar from what they see every week but our defensive tackles were simply not capable of diagnosing or stopping anything.

I've been watching Canes defensive tackles since little scrappy Tony Cristiani. It's always been a joy that we've maintained a tremendous heritage at that position. My dad died in fall 2012 and he mentioned several times in his final years how disappointed he was that we'd somehow lost our way at that position. He watched the defensive tackles every play.

Sorry, but when Calvin Heurtelou is your main guy at that position you don't have any complaint about defeating a team that will run it smack at you 50+ times. Heurtelou does nothing but stand up and arm wrestle. It was hilarious watching him try to pass rush against Cincinnati. It was even more comical watching the tape last night than at the stadium. The Bearcat blockers were so bored they often would extend only one arm once they realized two were not required against Heurtelou. He's not going anywhere.

Yes, but otoh, Flowers has been up and down all year this year. The guy is good enough to dominate his opponent every week. He's been inconsistent in our few big games.

We could have as many as 10 players drafted next spring. There's no way this team should be 4-3.

Perryman (2-3)
Flowers (2-3)
Duke (3-4)
Dorsett (3-5)
Walford (5-6)
Gunter (5-7)
Chickillo (5-7)
Armbrister (6-7)
Feliciano (6-7)
Pierre (6-7)

I think you are accurate with Perryman but Duke is more like 2-3 and Flowers 1-2.

Walford could go significantly higher than 5-6. For all the talk about lack of player development he's a rare exception. His body type and running style have really smoothed out in the past two years. In 2012 he was an odd looking player with talent. Now he looks the part and is making more and more plays. That low catch last week combined with the deep end zone touchdown grab along the sideline bad to further boost his stock, which was already on the rise. There have been raves on the draft specific sites.

Unlike running backs, tight ends who are downfield threats are steadily increasing in NFL value.

I truly don't see the obsession with Flowers.

Yes he's started since day one, but has zero accolades. Has done nothing to warrant it. Sorry just don't see it. No way he goes 2nd. Maybe late 3rd early 4th.. Most likely 5th

Dorsett needs to do something against teams with a defense. Once he does that, he will be drafted. Otherwise, like Hurns,. But that is not bad thing. Then he can pick the team he wants to work out for s a FA. No way on Chick either. Duke and Perryman will be fairly draft picks though.

Without using google name UCF and louisvilles starting d-tackles from last year?

dont worry ill wait. Cuz calvin and jenkins are good football players that can excel with better team and coaching.

Your argument is null and void because we STILL get better players than dUke and they just beat GT. nice try tho
