The # 1 Problem with UM football from 2003 to present

Miami is known to be a hot-bed of skilled players. 5 Star, skilled athletes at nearly every school in Dade/Broward county. Positions like WR, FS, RB, etc. Teams like Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson come to south Florida and cherry pick our athletes but Miami can match big schools recruiting athletes like Pope, Lingard, Thomas, etc. Recruiting classes are always top 10// top 20. However, the fundamental problem with Miami since 2003 is more than just our coordinators, or play-calling or our coaching.

What do Ohio State, Clemson, OU and Alabama have in common.. year after year. Their QBs change, their RBs change... yet they still dominate. Why?

The # 1 problem with UM football is we do not prioritize our OL. South Florida is deep with speed and skill but not deep with big uglies. Top schools always dominate the line of scrimmage. So we can go on about our talent and recruiting classes, our QB play but we're not landing top OL and DL.

When was the last time we had a dominate OL and DL? I'd say it was 2000, 2001. We continually target these athletes yet Wisconsin dominates us twice... with nowhere near the athletes. We have more 'skill' and more 'athletes' then every team we play.. yet we lose. Why? Because our we're not prioritizing the OL. This year is just another example of misguided recruiting.

Our problem is not DLine either. And our problem is maybe not playcalling, per se, but it is offensive scheme.

Unless we are going to start spreading bags around, we're going to need to go to a spread. There's no reason we can't do what UCF does, and do it better, a lot better.

There are many factors but our offensive line has been consistently poor since 2001. And when you see Alabama, Clemson, OSU, with new QBs, new coordinators, news schemes... still win.. You have to question why. The one commonality of all those schools is OL. Alabama has a coaching carousel yet they still dominate the line of scrimmage.

Dominant OL is an absolute constant among the top programs.

I want to judge this staff over the whole season, but god **** are they making it a lot harder than it needs to be.
 
Thing is our skill positions are fine. RBs look good, QB looks good, WRs look fine, TEs look great. Yet our offense struggles... Same struggles with various OCs. Why? Its not our talent and not every coach is terrible.

We're not recruiting a strong OL. Football 101. Dominate the LOS, dominate the game.

Clemson hasn’t had dominant OL, Ohio state is pretty good, Alabama is an exception not the rule.

We have had dogsh!t coaches on offense, mixed with poor recruiting, in both numbers and talent. It’s the perfect storm

I’m not opposed to throwing money at the problem, literally and figuratively, but plenty of teams get by with average to good OL play based on the scheme, play calling and strong QB play, none of which we have right now
 
1. Elite speed
2. Elite skill guys
3. Poor OL play

Hmmmm. I know! Let's throw a fullback and tight end on the line and pretend we're Wisconsin.

Coaching is also the problem. We've done nothing to mask our deficiencies or highlight our strengths on offense.
 
It's scheme and coaching. We need an Air Raid or Spread OC. These guys consistently take 3 star OL or less and set records. Here's just two examples (of many) on the current WSU roster. There were a couple guys who didn't have stars. Unreal. You can only imagine what they'd do with SoFL athletes. And I've been saying this **** since Leach begged for the job.

The administration not knowing a good coach when they see one is the heart of the problem. For years we went cheap, and now we are just going stupid. Mark Richt gave UM an easy out, and we went and hired a guy with no football playing experience, and no head coaching experience. Just plain stupid. To top it off, we had to pay his buyout. A coach with NO EXPERIENCE... we paid his buyout. "No, Temple, you don't need to pay him to learn on the job. We will pay him, and we will pay you, too."

Our current OL coach thinks there are more genders than his team has pancake blocks
 
There's a way to be effective and efficient on offense that doesn't require 5 All Americans on your offensive line every year but for some reason, we never hire a coordinator who agrees with me.
 
combination of a couple of things, Sr.mgmt turnover with a below average AD ( Blake) at the moment has hurt, what an awful HC search he conducted last time
coaching turnover has hurt us as well.Talent evaluation has been putrid as well.you can throw a rock and hit 10-15 WR's and CB's
but need to spread the net for OL/DL. we do not have any average O tackles on the squad said average not NFL talent average just average

OL/DL lets face it we have not been dominant upfront since Butch Davis S&C guy Moffett left.
no matter who is running S&C, no matter who is coaching OL.... we get pushed around
CMU, yes CMU dominated the LOS, let that settle in your mind for a moment , that's how bad its been.
Only brief flash was when Stoutland was here.....
