That last drive…

Was embarrassing and pathetic. Dawson , with decent field position, 4 minutes, 3 TOs and the 2 Minute stop was playing for a FG. No attempt or even hope of a TD to steal a game. I get that beck had 3 picks but if you don’t trust him he shouldn’t be in. We’re trying to win the game , not appease his feelings. Bunch formations. 3 yard outs . Hoping to make a 40+ FG for what? An OT loss?
Scared to win. Flat out embarrassing.
Same bull**** from the ND game.

Counting on a first time kicker to hit a 40+ yard FG. Got lucky that time.

Not last night!

Being there in the section behind the bench there didn’t seem to be any sense of urgency… how you didn’t want to push all your chips in when you were lucky to be in a position to win or tie with 4 clock stoppages is mind boggling

Louisville deserved to win that game and we had a chance to steal it and sneak out with a win. Beck was awful all night and he capped it off but Dawson/mario doubled down with that decision making down the stretch
I am sure Mario will utter his analytics nonsense as well. game was there tom be had but we did lack killer instinct. the 2 yard int. was there to improve FG distance. great teams do not play for a tie at home with all things trending positively

You all surely had more faith in our qb who’d thrown 4 picks prior to the drive than I did lol
Yeah I don't get this criticism. Our QB was a human turnover and we couldn't run the ball. Proverbial **** sandwich for an OC. More surprised than anything that we managed to drive the ball 50+ yards dinking and dunking while never having a successful play on 1st down on that drive.

We tried to get safe throws to the 1 or 2 guys on our team who can run with the ball after the catch. Small miracle that Beck dropped back 10 times in a row without throwing an INT.

We could have had 4-5 plays to try to get a TD once we got in FG range. The key thing was not to turn the ball over, which we nearly did on Lyle's run then left no doubt on the next play.

Personally, I think you guys are mad at the wrong things here in a way. I absolutely think we were playing for the W in this scenario (I can’t bring myself to believe otherwise, because that would be beyond malpractice), but I also think we were playing the “score a TD with as close to 0:00 on the clock” game too. Which is probably wise - if done correctly, and if it works out. You advance as far down the field as possible while working the clock to the 2 minute stoppage and then step on the gas, get the ball in the end zone with 0:05 or so left. Leave your opponent needing a miracle, or even without a chance at all. I agree with the thinking in general assuming of course that is what our staff was trying to do…but it needs to be executed, and that clearly was above our coaches’ and QB’s heads.

The lack of timeouts when they would have served best, and the atrocious play call on pick #4…left me without words, honestly.

Meh. We played the sidelines game the last drive to save timeouts. I can go with that. The last play, ball was tipped allowing the lb to catch up to the ball, but made a heck of a catch with his fingertips and the ball didn't touch the ground. Problem is....defense knew we were playing the sidelines.

I'm frustrated with the game up to that point, but the last drive was just **** luck imo.

Right on and so nicely said. Dawson and Marion play to LOSE and that's exactly what happened.

We had the momentum at that time. We had 4 timeouts (with 2 minute warning). You play to win the game there. Odds are against us in overtime as Louisville had outplayed us on offense and defense throughout the game. If I'm the coach I'm doing everything possible to win the game on that drive.

Clock management was also crap on that drive. I was screaming at my tv to call timeout when we got tackled with 52 seconds left. Instead they let another 20 seconds run off while we sat on all 3 timeouts. Terrible.
Yep, you are right on the nose!

I’m glad this is highlighted. As we started driving, I noticed we were bleeding the clock and it dawned on me, we’re doing the same **** we did against ND, playing for the FG. What’s the proverb? Going to the well one, too, many times? Instead of going for the jugular w all the momentum on our side, we decided to play for a “potential” game tying FG & OT v. the W.

It bit us in the ***.

Am I crazy? I didn’t see what many of you are seeing (not saying you’re wrong)

I thought we were playing to win the game by scoring a TD. It seemed the mentality was, score a touchdown with basically no time left for Louisville.

Could we have gone faster? Yes. But we were at their 30 yard line with two timeouts left when the ball was picked off. There was at least 30 seconds left on the clock. I’d prefer we had at least 45 seconds at that point, so I get the frustration. But it seemed like we were going to take a couple of shots and settle for a chip shot FG if we couldn’t punch it in.

I didn't like the play calling on the drive and I definitely hated the play call to Lofton but I didn't think clock management was that big of an issue.

Sure, we could have shown a bit more urgency, but there is no part of me that wanted to give that ball back to Louisville with 30-60 seconds left on the clock, especially since their kicker is legit.

Not to mention our QB wasn't exactly lighting it up downfield and taking a sack would have been worst-case scenario.

I agree We weren’t going to win in OT any way. Should have tried to score with all that time left.

Shouldn’t we try to run out the clock when we are at least closer to the end zone?

I just don’t understand how Mario watched the same game as us and decided that O/T against the staff who out coached him all night was the best move. While also banking on a kicker (who has been good up to date) that has a suspect career percentage to hit a high pressure 40 yarder to even get to said O/T. We definitely had no business winning that game but the football gods gave us a chance to steal it and Mario declined their offer.

Yes 100% and that is why I think they ****ed up so badly. Well...one of the reasons anyway. They wasted far too much time - it would have been much more manageable if we had 1:00 to play snapping the ball from the opponent's 30. Of course Beck would probably have thrown up all over himself anyway, so...
