They’re not going to get anything but what they’ve had since Mack Brown got pushed out, by hiring Steve Sarkisian. Guy is head-to-head a worse HC than Herman by a mile. If they hired Urban or a guy like Luke Fickel, total slam dunk. But this really doesn’t make any sense on their end, especially with all their resources.
USC. Cincy's AD went there.speaking of Fickell, any idea where he ends up? Or is he happy waiting for the ND or OSU job to open up? Seems like Ryan Day isn’t going to let that job go easily so I have to guess that Luke ends up somewhere else soon.
we got diaz boys were fine
I'd settle for Betty White as AD.I would settle for Danny White as AD
..
Interesting. Is Helton definitely getting fired?USC. Cincy's AD went there.
Normally I would agree, except at Texas. They might be the one school it could work at.Reeks of a "we need an Alabama guy to find out wtf we are doing wrong here" hire.
You don't beat Alabama...or Ohio State...or Clemson trying to be them. You've got to find a new way and new identity.
Honestly, this type of dismissal is probably the best case scenario for him. I don’t like the guy at all, but he wasn’t ever going to get it done at Texas. He’s got a 54-22 record, and is 5-0 in bowls, which any other Top-25 program would jump at. He’s also getting a massive payday too. Look at Charlie Strong, UT destroyed his career (honestly thought if he was given more time he would’ve turned them around).Herman laughing his *** off all the way to the bank.
I get the impression that Fickell is a Midwest guy, who’s laser focused on a Big 10 job. No need to jump from cincy right now. He has them rolling. He’s probably waiting for the Michigan or ND job to open up. I don’t see him jumping for a lower level Big 10 school.speaking of Fickell, any idea where he ends up? Or is he happy waiting for the ND or OSU job to open up? Seems like Ryan Day isn’t going to let that job go easily so I have to guess that Luke ends up somewhere else soon.
He's a different coach now and he didn't fail with the Falcons. The falcons offense has been absolutely terrible since he leftHe failed with the Falcons, he was mediocre at Washington and he got fired from USC for being a drunk.
If he couldn't handle the boosters at USC he's in for a rude awakening at Texas.
It’s the hires themselves, not the lack of investment. Texas could spend $59M a year on a head coach - let’s say Bill Callahan - but that doesn’t mean it gets them any closer to a title.Texas' resourcing >>>> Bama's resourcing
And it isn't even close really.
That's why their [Longhorn] futility has been so perplexing.
Trust me. You don't want him anywhere near your program.I would hire Herman at Miami immediately. Backload the contract to help offset Manuela’s buyout. Get a real head coach in here.
seems like that was just a cover for what was going on behind the scenes.
The Falcons went from 33 points a game to 22 points a game. He's a different coach now and he didn't fail with the Falcons. The falcons offense has been absolutely terrible since he left
Elaborate.Trust me. You don't want him anywhere near your program.
Committing to Sam Ehlinger for 4 years didn't help eitherIt’s the hires themselves, not the lack of investment. Texas could spend $59M a year on a head coach - let’s say Bill Callahan - but that doesn’t mean it gets them any closer to a title.
I live in Austin so most of my friends are Longhorns fans. Texas went with the hottest young coach each time they went looking for a replacement. The sure-fire, next big thing. I think that they went for skin-deep sizzle and wow factor as opposed to doing the proper diligence. Strong was a disaster for Texas and put them in a far worse place than they are now. I actually think that had people remained settled, Herman would have completely turned the corner next year and had them as a title contender. The defense needed correction, but they were essentially two OTs and a missed FG from a normally reliable kicker from facing Alabama yesterday. It’s not a bad team like it was in 2016.
Now Texas has to bring in a new OC and new DC. For some of these kids, it will be their third in as many years. Now Sarkasian will be scrambling to secure Herman’s class for 2021. Meanwhile Oklahoma, which has had one HC change in 22 years, can use this opportunity to distance themselves.
And if Steve does not make progress by 2023, Texas will move another direction yet again. Thereby repeating the circumstances that the Longhorns found themselves in during 2013, 2016, and now today.
