Texas fires Tom Herman

It’s the hires themselves, not the lack of investment. Texas could spend $59M a year on a head coach - let’s say Bill Callahan - but that doesn’t mean it gets them any closer to a title.

I live in Austin so most of my friends are Longhorns fans. Texas went with the hottest young coach each time they went looking for a replacement. The sure-fire, next big thing. I think that they went for skin-deep sizzle and wow factor as opposed to doing the proper diligence. Strong was a disaster for Texas and put them in a far worse place than they are now. I actually think that had people remained settled, Herman would have completely turned the corner next year and had them as a title contender. The defense needed correction, but they were essentially two OTs and a missed FG from a normally reliable kicker from facing Alabama yesterday. It’s not a bad team like it was in 2016.

Now Texas has to bring in a new OC and new DC. For some of these kids, it will be their third in as many years. Now Sarkasian will be scrambling to secure Herman’s class for 2021. Meanwhile Oklahoma, which has had one HC change in 22 years, can use this opportunity to distance themselves.

And if Steve does not make progress by 2023, Texas will move another direction yet again. Thereby repeating the circumstances that the Longhorns found themselves in during 2013, 2016, and now today.
Textbook insanity. Particularly from Red McCombs who is a good businessman.

Sark is an interesting choice... how much better is he than Herman?
Sark has more on his resume as far as OCing championship teams. Add in he doesn’t seem to have a punchable/face attitude. Herman was too ****y for not doing **** in power 5 as a HC.

Texas doesn't settle for mediocrity, they know they f'd up that hire and are moving on to big fish. Money talks.
Easy there, UT only has a total of two conference championships since 1996 (one of those was Mack's only national title as well). They've been largely mediocre for a long time and under multiple coaches. Thought that shouldn't be the case. In light of their resources they should be an annual top 10 program.

Texas seems like a place where the boosters have so much “input” that they break and ruin good coaches. Seems like they would need an Urban type and agree to not make demands, suggestions etc. But I don’t se me that agreement. Could be wrong.
Here’s a telling point - at Texas, Dabo would never have been given the time to get over the hump.

hired Sark already hahaha.

yet Manny is still sitting here with his finger up his butt not making any changes

Bro, I was told firings don’t happen like this. Yet all I saw was Michigan fire Don Brown immediately, and Texas firing Herman immediately.

Fans here live in this bubble & don’t see how other programs work.
