Texas A&M thread

I’m not going to sit here and act like this should be a cakewalk or anything, A&M has game breakers out wide and a mobile qb, both of which can mask a lot of issues/cause a lot for anyone. But I’m just not seeing this top tier line play everyone is talking about.

Rewatching all of Notre Dame and halfway through the Texas game, if Cashius Howell is a first round, potential top 10 edge rusher I’m absolutely lost.

Their DL excels at pass rushing. We are the best OL they will face and unlike our DL, they are suspect at run defense. We stay discipline, very little to none pre-snap penalties, will minimize their pass rushing.

Think our DBs and and DL will be able to do their jobs. O’Connor and OJ are quick/fast enough to hang with their smaller WRs. Damari and Lucas can get a physical with them since they r bigger. I’m interested to see how our LBs perform. That’s the weak link on the team.

this is a very tough matchup for us

we always struggle against running Quarterbacks

on the other hand, watch the Texas game where Texas should have beat down the Aggies even worse.

Marcel Reed could not hit a 5 yard screen pass.

he is woefully inaccurate at times- very streaky.

get pressure on him all day force him into mistakes.

hopefully their injured RB won't make it back by the 19th
We do not struggle against running qbs. It hasn’t been like that in a while.

We hope our dbs are fast enough to run with Craver and Conception. I think we deploy much more zone coverage than normal. We haven't seen 2 wrs faster all year. These arent your catch underneath and rac only wrs. They can run by cbs on verticals.

We must run the ball. We haven't been a great or dominating team on the ground especially vs good teams. If we can stay balanced on O we have a much greater chance to move the ball and score points. Death by 1000 paper cuts offense is what A$M will want and expect from us. Gotta find explosives in the run + pass game.

UL and SMU WR went OFF on us, Tamu has TWO of them and they are both explosive type game breakers in an offense that wants to get them the ball down field

I just keep coming back to their defense.

36th in yards per play allowed.
42nd in 10+ yard plays allowed.
87th in 20+ yard plays allowed.
97th in 30+ yard plays allowed.
69th in yards per carry allowed.
54th in scoring defense.

And this is while facing BUNS **** near every week.

Lagway, Nussmeier, Shapen, Arch, Mizzou's backup, Jackson Arnold, Two G5 teams.

I really think we can get this defense. It's strength on strength. The best thing they do is rush the passer. The best thing we do is pass protect. We're not great at running the ball, but they can't stop the run. Who wins there? They were 122nd in the country in 30+ yard runs allowed. Can the infusion of Pringle jump-start this run game? If we can hit a couple big runs it'd be huge to open up the passing game. I can't wait to see how our offense operates on the road against these dudes. Elko is a very good coach, and of course they have good athletes. But they gave up 40 twice this year. 25 to a terrible LSU offense. 30 to a terrible USCe offense. 27 to a terrible Texas offense. We can get these dudes.

Toney is our best short yardage back.

Any short 3rd down conversion should be him in the shotgun

and if not, please Beck under center and traditional handoffs where either Fletch or Pringle are going downhill on the snap

Dawson better have a real screen game ready

Fake the DL into rushing and screen it to Pringle or Toney

Have to win the turnover battle, worried about Bell and Brockermeyer against their DL. Beck has been bad when pressured this year, much better to take a sack then throw the ball up for grabs, he needs to play like a veteran. We need to have success running to slow down their pressure package, slot and TE need to have good games getting open to punish them.

Are those guys healthy? OJ hasn’t played in a month and Damari is hurt (I think).
