terry jefferson

at least he’s not anonymous and can be criticized.
Cool fair enough. That still don't change his play. I've already taken all of my criticism and my credit. It's part of life, let alone a game. If I was still getting paid millions to play this game you could take your shots at me all you'd want. Truly wouldn't give a ****, just like he don't.

when there is:

Poor pass rush
Injuries
Playing with younger guys
Playing 10 yards off the LOS
And you’re not a great corner

Youre gonna give up some freaking yards and see some bad execution.

EOC isnt a great corner. But also include a poor pass rush, having to play with freshman and 0, giving cushions, and injuries/ejections….thats a bad, bad recipe.

My originial comment was in support of Jefferson instead of EOC

We will definitely be tested against CJ Carr at notre dame. Our secondary needs to play their best game of year up to this point against Carr and co on road. Will be a major test. Nd will play their best game of year against us. Count on it. I hope we play our best against ND.

are we ready to have the conversation about the lazy technique we've seen? i know the d-line doesn't have to first rounders, but alot of the issues i've seen is just terrible footwork, no urgency, free releases, not using the sideline as a defender ... @Memnon, would love to hear your take

based on the sample size i can understand the hesitancy to hire, however his recruiting has been a1

fair ... but let's look the qbs we've faced
davis warren
armond parker
gio lopez
angel flores
tate reynolds
ashton daniels
holden geriner

not one (save lopez) is a cfp qb ... we are currenty
107th in passing yds allowed
55th in passing defense efficiency

what happens when the level of qb play increases? also, does it feel like we're improving? i actually see more improvement on the oline than i do in the secondary
I’ve been saying the same thing our DB’s can’t locate the ball and look lost.

On a good note. I don’t think we have come close to peaking on either side of the ball and we are clearly the best team in the nation, in my opinion. If we go up and beat ND in their house, I don’t think anybody can stop us.

It is curious because we have certainly been poor at technique for years but also I think the safeties and Scott helped coordinate the players better last year.

I’ve mentioned it a few times but we also played more split coverage and rolled our coverages differently last year (in big games) which is mostly an injury thing. That helped cover up some serious slackers (Lucas) in terms of talent

I don’t think we can even begin to understate how crucial Scott was to last year’s defense. Bain and Mesidor get a ton of hype, and well deserved, but Scott had everything in shape in the backend. Thomas as well, but Scott was one of the smartest and most instinctive guys I’ve seen here since ST.

I’m going to wait and reserve judgement until we get all the bullets back in gun for Jefferson. I think some of our CBs are what they are and being forced to play more rotational guys as much as we are clearly isn’t going to be as successful as some of us thought it would be.

I expect a shakeup on the staff after the season
Well we've clearly prioritize recruiting over coaching so Jefferson definitely won't be included in that shake up unless he leaves on his own. Because the dudes recruited like an absolute monster. Now that's a whole another conversation for a different individual in the secondary.
Wasn’t meaning Jefferson per se but there will be some changes or shakeups I believe.

Wasn't just keionte. Jokobe was essential to us also. Both locked down their responsibilities and it let Bryce freestyle and be a ballhawk. Now he has responsibilities and it's easier for offenses to call plays around him. But yes it's tough to accurately judge terry yet because of all the injuries and all the inexperienced dudes getting significant pt. Some of them no matter who the coach is, just ain't that type of dudes.

Huge drop off this year from Keionte Scott to Omar Thornton this year. I hope we can overcome injuries and some poor play in secondary this year but our Offense has been much better than last year..there are no unbeatable teams out there this year. It seems anyone can lose on any given week.

We miss Fitzgerald as ballhawk at safety this year due to him having to play CB with all the injuries.

Been saying this for weeks. We are making normal QBs look like Tom Brady, and it’s due mostly to poor technique and bad eye discipline. The injuries are a scapegoat for a larger problem that has persisted for years.

The defense is different this year. Without looking at stats it may be playing better even though it doesn’t feel like it at all.

No bain mesi Keionte frederique (missed a lot of Lucas). It’s been way more of a bend don’t break approach. They’ll let teams dink down the field bc eventually they’re gonna be behind the sticks too many times. It’s definitely not the dominant, aggressive, take your soul kinda defense last year was. But that starts with missing 2 firsts and Keionte who’s got like a 90 run d grade for the Bucs rn.

I’m slow to blame a coach who lost his top 3 corners before week 2. Lucas is back but Antoine was going to play a lot and OJ is our best corner.

We need to improve, that’s clear, I feel like Lucas was better yesterday, and should settle back in. I’d feel better if we had any idea when Antoine and OJ will be back, if they will be back

Prior to FSU, the numbers were fine.. but we have started to get real leaky with explosive plays these last two games and we never have had that issue til now..

BRING BACK RUMPH! just to coach definitely not to recruit.
People complained when Rumph coached here that corners never turned and looked for the ball.
Yeah they did but….. they definitely looked better overall though.
I get it and agree we haven’t been good in the back 7, our zone coverage has been crap. But if I told you in August we’d be without OJ and Lucas for a big stretch and Antoine what would you have expected?

Honestly I’m just mad at how Portis been looking freshman or not lol

He’s likely a nickel being asked to play outside. If we are healthy Portis likely wouldnt have gotten many reps at all.

I felt like Jennings looked good yesterday and Mack had played some meaningful reps.

We need to understand that when you take out the best technical corner in college football, it’s going to expose everybody else’s flaws. Omar won’t be back there guarding receivers; he’ll be playing the flat and blitzing. Fitzgerald would be playing safety, reading the field from the back end and focusing on one side.

With OJ erasing the outside receiver, it makes everybody else’s job easier because we have an extra man who can roam around, blitz, or provide help on the other side. The problem is that once you take OJ out of the lineup, everybody’s weaknesses will become more noticeable because they won’t get the same consistent help and coverage support they would get with OJ on the field.
