terry jefferson

terrible eyes and misunderstanding responsibilities ... i've wanted to post this about jefferson for a few weeks, but i chilled on it ... but some of this stuff is egregious ... the td against o'connor was terrible ... he was 15 yards off the ball on the snap, and still got beat, that's bad feet/technique
but weve also seen o'connor have some some great games this yr while looking like our best corner so im not sure he's recieving bad coaching but it was just a terrible rep by him he was convinced it was a post route and got cooked.

1. Our CB commits are ELITE asf.
2. We’ve had our top 3 CBs out most of the year.
3. The Hail Mary defense complaints are legit. Wtf is going on there? It’s a low percentage play being competed at far too high a percentage against us.
4. We are stopping the run at an elite clip. I meant ion this because…..
5. Most importantly, we’ve jumped out to fairly large leads against just about every opponent this year. This leads to the other team having to pass a lot. You can counter argue back that because we are up large and know the opponent will be passing we should perform better. Fat remains that large leads means the other team is passing more.

Not disputing that there’s room for improvement with technique and understanding/awareness. But let’s keep it all in perspective.

We gave up these passing yards to these teams
Wake- 312
Clemson -295
FSU - 305
Pitt- 334.

Aside from Ashton Daniels who threw for 377 against Alabama. All of these qbs had their biggest games passing against us. Let’s see how we end the season. I think we will get better if we get OJ and Antoine back.
Pitt ran it 26 times and passed 35. It would be interesting to see what the run to pass ratio is with all our games because no one has been able to run on us and have to throw gain yards.

I'm confident we figure it out, but we have not really played any quality QBs other than Warren and Lopez. CMU was a running qb, Clemson was a freshman whose first instinct was to run, Daniels is streaky and Pitt it was a guy only getting his second start in 5 years.

Yes, we are tops in run defense but what happens when a team just comes in and say forget the run and start throwing it all over the yard from their first snap. I know Wake wished they would have started the game like they called plays in the second half.........

Just keeping working on it, and hopefully health improves things into Nov.

fair ... but let's look the qbs we've faced
davis warren
armond parker
gio lopez
angel flores
tate reynolds
ashton daniels
holden geriner

not one (save lopez) is a cfp qb ... we are currenty
107th in passing yds allowed
55th in passing defense efficiency

what happens when the level of qb play increases? also, does it feel like we're improving? i actually see more improvement on the oline than i do in the secondary

Numbers are what they are, but for context we’ve jumped to early leads in most games & teams rack up passing yardage playing from behind. That’s not to say secondary play has been wonderful.

Yeah but if you guys are going to try and mention these things which I've been saying for years by the way. You also have to mention this isn't necessarily a Terry Jefferson thing. We've had bad technique in the secondary for quite a while. When you guys turned around and said oh look we've got dogs etc and anyone that's paying attention said you got to understand the role Ruben bane mesador and the rest of that front please and how the DBS look. The fact we had elite safety play helped as well. But Lucas gets beat often that's not a Terry Jefferson thing he was getting beat last year as well OJ just the same better technique doesn't get beat as often but he has his moments he looks lost. Ethan O'Connor I don't even want to speak on that dude not only have I not forgave him for the national championship & his play but he looks exactly the same to me this year as well. So will I agree on the technique it's clearly not Terry Jefferson or at least not just him.

I expect a shakeup on the staff after the season
Well we've clearly prioritize recruiting over coaching so Jefferson definitely won't be included in that shake up unless he leaves on his own. Because the dudes recruited like an absolute monster. Now that's a whole another conversation for a different individual in the secondary.

Let’s talk about this.

Lopez WF: yes he threw for 313 vs us. But we also held their offense to 20 points, and he had -8 yards rushing. It also took him 46 attempts to get that 313 averaging 6.8.

Against CAL, Lopez went for 267 which was fewer than vs us BUT BUT BUT, he also had 4 passing TDs, and only attempted 23 passes for 11.8 avg attempt. He also rushed for 51 yards.

Against Stanford. Again, Lopez threw for 265 but on 27 attempts and 9.8 avg per attempt. He threw for 2 TDs and rushed for 3 more TDs and 88 yards.

Against UL. His QBR was 89. Vs us his QBR was 68.

My point is:

1. You’re wrong.
2. Pitt had their starters out there vs our freshman team. Before we called off the dogs, he had like 200 yards passing (middle of the 4th quarter). His QBR was under 60. That’s pretty ******, dude.
3. It’s obvious our secondary is depleted. Yeah the Hail Mary **** needs to be addressed, we aren’t good at locating the ball, etc. But a healthy Poyser, Bryce, Lucas, OJ, and O’Connor/JJ is top 5 secondary in the country. Easy.

Bonus: Miami has the #1 rush defense in the country. Teams are going to be passing 40-45 times a game, and yardage is going to add up. Our starting defense was great yesterday. They got off the field, they tightened up the penalties in the second half, and the game was over at halftime.

1-0. UNC is our next victim
Ethan o connor is healthy & he's not on fresman team. He's always been **** in coverage and his technique leaves tons to be desired.

All fair points. There isn’t a single elite team in the country right now that doesn’t have deficiencies, including us.
