No.

Here's the difference, and it's a lot like the "legalize marijuana" argument.

Current "bags" (which are largely run through charities) are unregulated and illicit. Thus, whatever happens...happens in darkness.

NIL is going to be HIGHLY regulated. The process will used "fair market value" of services such as "spokesman" and "endorser". The NIL cannot be arranged by the school itself. NIL money has to be approved IN ADVANCE of actually being paid. Players are going to have to file tax returns and pay income tax.

And, look, a player can still evade the LEGAL avenue of NIL money and take illicit "bag money".

But NIL is not some "substitute" for the bag game.

You’re being naive if you think ncaa can draw a beat on bag schools. NCAA is keystone cops to bag school’s elite heisters.

Bump. This thread dropped off to page 2 on the recruiting board. Can't let that happen.
Been slacking...

Does anyone with true knowledge of the situation know if he’s waiting on a green light from the staff or is he just less firm on his commitment to Tenn?

You may be right! Even when mack was pulling da no-1 classes way back when they still underachieved. Even with da one title.
And when you look at their schedule, much of their win total was inflated by a really, really poor schedule.

Between 2000 and 2005 they faced just two out of conference schools of note (Arkansas - a so-so 9-4 team, who they lost to in 2002, and Ohio State who they narrowly beat in 2005). That's it. The rest of their OOC opponents were opponents like Rice and North Texas. These were so far below the Longhorns that it was quite common to see Texas with a 35-0 lead in the second quarter. The Big 12 was not much healthier. Baylor had not risen up yet and Texas Tech and Oklahoma State were so-so. Oklahoma was the only team that had talent at a similar level to Texas, and they consistently beat the Longhorns from 2000-2004 (twice in humiliating fashion).

In recruiting, they had little competition at the time as well except for Oklahoma. The only two recruits that they lost out on were Adrian Peterson (who flipped to OU following a 2003 drubbing) and Ryan Periloux (who flipped to LSU). That's it. Throughout the 2000s, their recruiting was done in almost an assembly line fashion. UT would invite a host of highly rated Texas juniors to Junior Day, and between 15 and 20 would commit that weekend in April. Recruiting was basically done until NSD.

The move of Texas A&M and Missouri to the SEC further opened up the state to recruiting for the conference. LSU made inroads into the state, as did others. At the same time, Oklahoma State and Baylor got better. The latter, a lot better. Houston also made some recruiting inroads. This and strongly increased competition level sent Texas spiraling out of an elite state.

Most of the UNC fanboys on this site can't see that Mack was a massive underachiever and benefited from an incredibly weak schedule at Texas because of a condition known as a "Brown Out" (that's when Mack Brown puts his ******* over their eyes so they only see brown).

You definitely kno yo stuff about texas! I use to say way back when that there recruiting was insane!

Kids don't care about these scores I keep telling y'all....other then that come on down.

If they care Clemson would of destroyed all momentum in recruiting
Nah man too big of a leap. We were supposed to lose to clemson, just like Tenn is supposed to lose to Bama.... Even if they get blown out, I agree it does not impact a kids decision much because it was bama or clemson, just like it does not impact the fan base much.

I think scores do come into play if Tenn was losing to the Vandy's of the league because it is a trickle down effect. Bad losses can put coaches on the hot seat, maybe the coach makes a change with assistants who are recruiting the kids, maybe booster dry up some funds to get a new coach, kids 100% do take that into consideration, very few Duke Johnsons of the world that would have came to UM if we had no head coach.

I think kids use losses as excuse not to come when there are things in the background we don't see. DJ is a super fan a rare breed...elite kids are rarely built like that. The domination bama has gone through has made some child duke johnson's that will be loyal to them in the future. Recruiting is a separate entity to most kids...u have to make offers they can't refuse where records don't matter. Where taking care of u matters that's what they want. We have to close cause bag schools step up close to NSD.....u will see who the elites really want....and who they toss to the side. We need more ballers and this class will be legendary a few more turns this into a program changing class...assuming they are what there ranking says they are
