Ted Hendricks Reincarnated?

Verified 100% true.

Close person flying on commuter plane.

Very upset, mother very ill, Hendricks sits next to her.

She’s an attractive woman but clearly in no mood to talk, but he’s having such a hard time with his seat she notices. Otherwise she would have spent the hour staring out the window. This was at least ten years ago or more, when there were fewer of the small jets they fly now and more of the prop puddle jumpers with tiny seats, so you can imagine Ted Hendricks in one of those.

Anyway, she notices him, recognizes him, but can’t place name to face but knows he plays football/basketball. He tells her, she mentions her husband is big canes fan (most of our family is) and asks for address.

Not much talk after that. Short flight. Father meets her at airport, TH introduces himself, offers condolences. Leaves quite the impression, Not overbearing and very polite.

Three days later 8x10 high quality autographed print addressed to husband with husband’s name and signed by TH arrives at his home. I’ve seen it.

Unbelievable.

There was absolutely nothing in it for him other than doing a kindness for someone else.

I really don’t know that much about Ted Hendrick’s personally, but that tells me a lot right there.

Great story OCCC! Glad you shared it. I've heard stories in the past - 2nd hand mind you - that he was a gentle giant. One of the best Canes ever!

Most shocking thing about him is his physicality. He packs some punch for a skinny kid who's still supposed to be in high school.
I expected Him to be fast off the edge coming in, but didn’t expect for him to be making noise with his strength too this early on

seriously. ted was maybe THE all time greatest D-Lineman to ever play at UM.

i hope rousseau is a beast of a player, but to call him the next ted? easy there, sparky,

My God, we've had some crazy good ones... Sapp, Wilfolk, Brown, Hendricks, Kennedy, Maryland, etc.

Ted? Dang. You got anyone for Ed Reed? If he ends up half of Ted, he I’d 1st round in today’s nfl. Ted would have gone number one pick on draft any of the last 10 years, except Luck. Shula drafted him as lb at the Colts, before the day of speed rush ends. I admit that he makes me think of Ted but since I watched Ted play it stops at thinking. How about Stubbs? I’ll that that in a second. Danny was a beast too.

Ted was a classmate of mine at the U. He registered 327 tackles in his colllege career and was a 3 time all-american (2 first team and 1 second team).
He was a phenomenal player. The kind that comes around only once in a lifetime. Maybe I'll get to see the second.

If it was business statistics, I was in that class as well. Ted was also first team County in basketball at Hialeah High.

Before my time, but it sounds like Ted wasn’t opting for the easy classes.

Toughest class I ever took at the U.When we walked in the dude teaching the course says "look to your left, look to your right one of you will complete course. At the end of the semester check the number who left, an that dude knew statistics back in the 1960's. Anyone who took his class knows who he is, former navy guy.

I took a similar class but in grad school, but I like statistics.

I think in undergrad I took a regular statistics course since I had a science undergrad major. Or whatever stat course was required for my major. They’re all probably basically similar. I was lucky enough to already have taken it in high school so it wasn’t a huge deal anyway.

But it’s huge deal for a football player with their busy schedule, I think.

After all the discussion about Hendricks, I did a little research and discovered he was born in Guatamala City, Guatamala! I vaguely remembered there was something unique about him thus the digging.

Would have never guessed. Wonder if dad was in the armed forces.

no doubt. we've had some great ones, and no disrespect to any of those guys, who were awesome football players ... BUT, no one dominated for three year, from the very second of their first game, like ted did.

If I recall he seemed to be a good student then, things were different at Sun Tan U in those days, those were the days. Guess just about anyone who went to the U,whenever would say "those were the days".
