Yep. See Louisville. This is what I was talking about last year with our explosive O, for all of it's glitz and glamour and being fun to watch, it hurts our D when it gets late in the 2nd half because they've played more snaps than they should have to. ****, even against Arky State, their last TD drive was 16 plays, 89 yards, and 5:59. We always seem to give up at least one of those type of possessions late in each game. In a close game, that's a backbreaker. WE need to be the ones putting that kind of drive on display late, not giving it up.True, Baylor doesn't kill you with TOP. However, they put up second half points without that TOP margin. Miami's offense whimpers in the second half while its TOP exacerbates the issue. There's just no second half point production, and the D breaks down...it turns a competitive game into a blowout loss.
And I have no clue how pointing out Baylor (one good offensive football team) and their TOP disproves how most good football teams do on TOP when they're truly in control of the opponent. Flawed logic.
If this cat doesn't believe that we've been an offense having to rely on explosive plays or going 3 and out pretty much...then I don't know what to tell him. It's freaking obvious to anyone with a pair of eyes. For the most part, if we don't hit 1-3 20+ yard chunk plays on a drive, that drive is likely ending without Miami putting points up on the board.
If we can't drive 10+ plays and 80+ yards in 5+ minutes against Arky State by being a balanced offensive attack, then when we need to do it against better teams...we aren't going to be able to do it. Plain and simple.
