In today's college football you gotta be able to score points. Nobody plays great defense week in and week out anymore, it's **** near impossible. This isn't 1998 where everybody runs the I-formation. OC's these days are innovative and crafty...and offenses are calling plays after they see the defense line up. You're not guaranteed to stop every offense you face. Even some of the best defensive teams in college get their asses handed to them a couple times during the season. During those type of games your *** better be able to score some points or you're gonna get blown out.
An innovative spread gives Miami the best chance to do this. The WR position is where we have a distinct advantage over everybody in the country. Not RB, not OL, not QB. Miami lined up in the Pro-Style with the plethora of WR's they have at their disposal is like Wisconsin lining up in the spread. It's not our DNA.
