Crazy as **** man, I go back and look at our teams from the Diaz and other eras and its a total night and day difference. We thought we were loaded back then and we were not, now you see what a real grown man roster looks like. I am watching old highlights and this roster dwarfs those teams.

I won't deny that Cristobal and Mirabal have put together elite O lines consistently for the better part of a decade.

I think you're extending this take too far. I am not saying that his failure to properly evaluate our DB room in 2024 outweighs anything, it merely proves he has grossly misevaluated a position group in the past. It's just a tiny sprinkle of doubt that I can't unlock from my mind because of how severely he underestimated the talent and ability of that group.

That being said, I would be very surprised if what we have is not better than what the outsiders are projecting because I expect McCoy Samson Cantwell Rodrigues and Buchannon/Congdon/Merriwether/SJ to be awesome. I am ~95% positive that Mario has got it all figured out. All I am saying is the only reason I am not 100% is the DB room in '24 because of how shockingly bad that unit performed.

It may seem silly to base any O-line apprehension, slight as it may be, on the DB debacle in 24. For me though it was so bad that it forces me to consider the possibility that Mario could overestimate the capability of any group, even the O line.

Is this more about Rodriguez, who has not stayed healthy, or not trusting the backup?

Even assuming SJ is awesome, Mario may be too much of a size queen to trust him.

Had this convo with my pops the other day. The only thing keeping me from fully trusting Mario's evals (as it pertains to the O line talent for this season) is because he gave the greenlight to roll out that secondary in 2024. That is the only thing.

If we hadnt been so bad on that unit and literally missed an ACC title and CFP berth because of it I would not doubt for one second that the O line this season will be dominant even if it is a reloaded and unproven group. But alas the DBs from 2024 haunt my psyche so instead of belligerently bullish I am confidently optimistic

People forget he took the blame for this immediately after the season. I remember in the off season him and Guidry were saying we’re good with what we have and oh i hope the players hear the concerns lol

This past year in the 2nd portal window we added scott and thomas if im not mistaken? Didn’t take that risk again. I wish the 2nd portal window was still a thing

Yea I mean I think him taking the blame was partially him saying never again am I going to ignore what my eyes tell me. Leave nothing to chance ala JJs comments regarding officiating. So I do expect us to be A OK from a personnel stand point. O line is probably fine even if SJ has to snap and I think LB staters should be good and that depth is good too with Bonner Pruitt Wiley Marcelin Edwards. those are really the only weaknesses people talk about TEs but we have recruited well and there are legit kids in that room.

The last frontier for UM football is elite ST units, not just solid kicking. I pray that the missed Bauman block is going to be the last monumental ST error that costs us glory. The players have been bringing it up during talking season. They all know that the mistake by Mali to field that kick for the trick play and then the subsequent and much more egregious blocking error that led to the blocked punt TD likely cost us that game. I gotta believe that the same emphasis Mario has placed on past mistakes has been addressed and corrected for the upcoming season.

Seems we may even have overcompensated in with the Secondary. The talent amassed there since that season is impressive - almost as much as the WR room.
