I know people keep saying DB, but can the guy play in the slot?

I'd imagine that guy in space would be a nightmare to defend. Granted, he's not playing over Toney but I'm guessing there's more of a chance to get repaired there than at RB.

I just don't agree. I think he'll be this season's version of Mesidor. He's been playing out of position at guard, and I think that's skewed how people view him. When he has been beaten, it's mostly been on stunts looping inside. At right tackle, he won't see those. He has the athleticism, and play strength to be a dominant RT.

Mesidor was a proven commodity that sustained several injuries. That is an unfair comparison and displays recency bias. He has never looked good at LT, LG, RG, or RT. That doesn't mean he can't perform but in year 5 I' rather bet on talent than experience. All that said if he ends up starting I hope to be wrong.

I’ve got basically one “concern” this year and it’s OL depth

McCoy, Samson, Rodriguez are likely keys to our success and all have been injured

We had several years of almost no injuries on the OL. Depth was rarely tested (thank god)

McCoy had some good moments late in the season IIRC

Is McCoy a step down from last year? Of course. But comparing this offensive line to last year's unit is almost unfair. This group is still, by far, the best in the ACC and should remain one of the top offensive lines in the country. That's all I care about

There's just so much talent in this room. Heck, Tommy Kinsler transferred because he wasn't going to see the field, and now he's projected to start at right tackle for a team that just made the College Football Playoff semifinals. As you said, staying healthy is the biggest key.

Yeah I don’t just default to “trust Mario” but given our lack of aggression in the portal (I think Seaton was fools gold) I have to believe they are confident in what we have

Just not sure how it’s gonna look yet

We're deeper at WR than at RB, especially Slot Receiver. I don't see our RB depth as that crazy given how much RBs can get banged up.

I kid - I don't have kids and I can't imagine trying to walk that line.

Also "growing up and out of that hard-headed, know everything stage" - there are some people on this board that I am pretty sure are well past their 20s that still haven't gotten past this stage 😂

It’s only a matter of time that the media attacks our practices if we have injuries. Just so they can sell to recruits don’t go to UM because you will get hurt.
I know the media is waiting for that to happen so they can cry, and our rivals.

yeah not a easy situation either way.

Id say the 2027 upside for PT, if he were to have switched, would be higher @ DB, especially CB, but doesn’t matter now anyways. Robby switched to CB and never ending up seeing the field and transferred to play WR anyways.
