Look out for his teammate also 2022 DT Tawfiq Thomas 6’4-6’5 350

I felt this large young man needed his own thread. He has quietly been going about developing himself into potential under the radar war daddy type NT since his freshman year.

He performed well at the Show ( IMG Camp ) in December 2020 and was invited to the Miami Rivals camp in April.

So we will see how he does, Miami is looking for at least one 0 or 1 technique for the 2022 class an as of now I would lean toward Alton Tarber from Deerfield Beach, but Thomas looks like he could play his way into a plan B+ offer from UM just like his teammate.

I'll get to the tape...But you are always posting these zero techs

Out of 7-8 DT...UM usually has 1-2 zero tech on the roster at most??? It's not our scheme. And even those kids are never really the huge nose guard type.

I'll check the film and my apologies if this kid isn't that. I just don't understand why you post so many nose guard types. Is he more like a Haye? If so then I digress. But most of these kids aren't what they want for our scheme.

A big reason for bamas success is quickness and size on the dl where they can control the line of scrimmage...this player might work out after a couple of years of Simpson...

Good Lord that's a big kid. Prototypical 0-1 technique NT for a 3-4 defense. I think Jess could make the adjustments on the DL to accommodate a NT, but I don't have any confidence in our LBs who we would have to heavily rely on to make it work.

Lol that's not how football works. The DL coach doesn't get to choose alignments. He coaches within the Coordinators scheme.

@Ethnicsands discussed this the other day. Vince wilfork was 6’2 350 plus AND COULD MOVEEE. This young man is a NT space eater. U could put Vince in whatever front you wanted and he’s a HOF. You not putting this kid in a 3 tech. Just like if we needed a NT in our system your not bringing in JHH, Nesta, Robert’s types. Which is the prototype of what we want on this D. You recruit towards your system unless it’s a special player that’s greatest transcends a particular system

Here is UM'S typical 4-2-5 over alignment. Notice the 1 tech which is part of the base front 4. Allen Haye is a shorter 1 or 0 tech that will have to win with leverage and technique because he is not that hulking space eater. Think Pat Bethel 2.0. Where as Thomas is a blue collar, big boi with a high motor, notice in his hudl there are a few clips of him chasing down short pass plays thrown away from him.

@305to954 UM uses 0,1,and 3 technique dlinemen in our 4-2-5 overfront. Such as Ford, Miller, and Holley are all 300+lbs space eaters that are also athletic.

We need a "Jon Ford/Kendrick Norton" type replacement in this defense. If Jordan Miller leaves, we have no big bodies along the DL going into 2022.. Mannys defense does absolutely need a space eater/run stuffer at DT because the other 3 guys on the DL are shooting upfield to the QB half the time.. I would definitely keep this kid on the radar because he passes the look test from a size standpoint.

Miami is in his Top 3 and according to him UM coaches love him. Which is a good thing to establish a strong relationship with a plan B recruit early so if we need to circle back later in the recruiting cycle the relationship is there already.

Fun fact he said he models his playing style after Warren Sapp and Vince Wilfork!!!!

The young man is raw technique wise and needs to improve his hands, he relies to much on his spin move which will not always work at the college level or against quality olinemen.

2022 NT Tawfiq Thomas comes in at the 2:58 mark. This was back in December 2020 at IMG. His D-End teammate 2022 Mario Eugenio who just received a UM offer is also in the video.

His Love for zero techniques is Actually a Love for their Mothers! BLM- “Big Lives Matter” Paranos’s mantra!

He could give Zion Nelson a few pointers on how to high point the ball in the back of the endzone, big boi has some good hands.

Tawfig is the kind of interior linemen we should be all over! Extra Big Boys that can be transformed to muscle and power, but already well over 300lbs. Imagine him and Alton Tarber anchoring the middle? Watch the gaters scoop this boy up. They recruit 2 huge DT every year.

Not our typical dt recruit. If i had to choose a 1 or nose right now its Alton Tarber.

We recruited 1 in Haye last class.

I would still slowly recruit Tawfiq Thomas,,,his teammate i really like though
Hayes and Tarber in back to back classes seems like a bit much. Outside of Jon Ford & Jordan Miller we don’t have a lot of big 1 techniques. Yes the Miami defense is all about the disruptive 3 technique but we’ve seen Kendrick Norton cause **** in this defense too. Thomas after a redshirt year and cutting some of that baby fat would be a problem

I have no specific comment on this recruit. But as a rule, we should always have at least 2 NGs on roster. We need that big body for when we rush that 3rd DE from the interior, or flip from 4-3 to 3-4. The rest can be 3-Techs or interior rush specialists like Willis in this scheme.

Ford is leaving, with only Miller left. And who knows if he's portal bound. I don't know what to classify Haye, seems a little bit of a tweener to me. Given all this uncertainty, I think we need to take the best NG available.

Exactly fam, if I'm taking one of these body types it's gotta be Tarber. Better movement skills. Thomas doesn't seem to have the scheme versatility that Tarber has. I'd definitely feel more comfortable playing Tarber in a 4-3 front than Thomas(who can be a Dalvin Tomlinson type in a few years)...
