Tarholes are going to be a tougher game than I thought...

UNC defense is not some undefeatable juggernaut. We should be able to rack up plenty of rushing yards and our O line has game experience and will get better.

So you're of the opinion that those 5 guys have no chance of improving and that a major step down in competition will have no affect on their play?

I'm not expecting the tackles to morph into Bryant McKinnie and Jaoquin Gonzales but to not expect at least mild improvement from guys after their first playing time ever seems a little overly pessimistic.

I sure hope so, my friend. And yes, there's the arguement that college players always/usually see improvement from game 1 to 2. That said, you could have said the same thing last year after LSU but we sucked all year. I do expect mild improvement from that area but still expect struggles. Not to the tune of 10 sacks and 10 QBH but it will be up there still, imo/

Losing to LSU had nothing to do with inexperienced players getting their first ever playing time. I did not expect 5th year senior Malik Rosier to improve after week one. You can't really draw any comparisons between last season's opener and this year's.

We're also talking about an opponent this week who had one of the worst defenses in FBS last season. Maybe I'm just optimistic but I certainly expect them to perform much better in their second game against a team that's significantly worse than the one they played last week.

The same people that make these posts also downplay our wins afterwards. “Well UNC wasn’t good and they gave us the game with turnovers”

I pick the game to be close because I don’t think Diaz is a good coach. Not because I think UNC is any good.

I picked the same score as the OP in a different thread.

Tarholes may be tough, but how tough are the refs going to be Saturday night? Broken record I know, but holy **** do we get sodomized at every opportunity by the refs.

Just watching the UF game again I picked up how on the UF opening drive to the second half the refs missed an egregious hold on Pickney on 2nd and 10 that resulted in a first down, and called that god awful PI on Blades. That's 25 free yards for the Gators when they should've been looking at 2nd and 20 from their 29 yard line. That drive ended up resulting in no points, but they were able to pin us deep inside our 10 yard line.

Fvck the refs. Always and forever.

Every game this season we will have to deal with ,”this game will be tougher than I thought” type of posts

Canes the last 12-15 years have proven theses games are definitely tough. These are the types we lose more often than not.

The Bateman hype is a bit unfounded. Points and yards per game at Army were all based on the fact that Army had some of the best TOP in the nation. Army defense just simply played less snaps than everyone else. When broken down into yards per play or S&P he ranked in the dumps with the other service academies.

I am heading up to the game this weekend and I think we are going to have our hands full with the ol' tarholes. I think we win 24-21, but it will be a close one. I think most of us think it will be.
Watched the Mack Brown video attached, it was interesting. His take on things, you can tell he is one of those wise ol' coaches. I like Mack like I liked Mark Richt, just a couple good old boys. I wonder how long Mack will be able to go until he gets run down by the seasons. He is a great person like Richt, but he isn't a spring chicken any longer and the coaching takes a toll on you these days.
Anyway, I thought Mack was a good listen if you haven't heard him or know him. He talks a bit about how he does things and some about us. He throws a bit of knowledge in there that, maybe, only the seasoned vets know.
It will be tough whoppin' his *** on Sat. night, but Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. See y'all Sat. at the game! GO CANES!! :neonu::11263272045-489f4f7972-o::stormwarningflag-sm:

The ONLY reason I won't " call U " out is because you'll be attending the game. Otherwise.... LOL.

Sometimes I wonder if anyone watched us play last year. We should always expect to drop a game until we prove we won't.

Isn't it time to " turn the Orange and Green page? " Last season is gone with the prevailing North winds and what not. My apologies, Mr. Seger, for BORROWING a hook of yours.

After one game huh? Excellent sample size.

One game proved to be an excellent sample size with Al Golden.

And I hated Manny as head coach even when there was a 0 game sample size. I thought he was overrated as DC. His promotion reeked of Richt influence. He was Temple’s 3rd choice for the job, and no other FBS program ever showed the slightest interest in him as head coach.

So every head coach who loses their first game is a bust?

How many coaches had that bad of a first game? 10 sacks, 3 delay of game penalties, a zillion dropped passes?

With Golden’s Maryland loss, it wasn’t really clear how bad the loss was at the time, since nobody expected them to go 0-10 against FBS opponents not named Miami.

Anyway, there were plenty of people who hated Richt when he was 4-4 his first year. They turned out to be correct.

You have to realize you're setting an impossible standard. You really expect any coach to come in and dominate their very first game with someone else's players? Its nice if they do, but losses will happen. That's why its rare to fire a coach without giving them a fair chance to succeed.

So far, all I've seen from you is ****posting. Constantly *****ing about things is not normal, healthy behavior. If you sincerely expect Diaz, his staff, and the team to be that big of a disappointment, I highly recommend that you switch to a team that does nothing but make all the right moves and wins all the time. UCF could sure use a fan like you.

Oh God. Another poRst about how you have to be a fan of the coach in order to be a fan of the team.

I hope Diaz will be successful and prove me wrong. Unfortunately, I doubt it.

I wonder who’s alternate account you are? Bet an IP check would tell us

I'm not saying any such thing. I'm calling you a ****poster who's not happy unless they're finding something to complain about. Legitimate criticism is one thing. Constant whinging about every detail is a sign of an unhappy person.

Don't forget the Miami fans who hated Jimmy Johnson during his first season. Or the ones who flew the banner for Butch Davis. Yeah, he was the original banner coach. "From national champs to national chumps, thanks Butch". So maybe just jumping to immediate conclusions isn't always the best move.

Somehow this thread was a perfect set up into a "tell me we roll" and instead it's a weenie fest. Some of you are still in offseason poRsting mode. Get it together
