Talent, Coaching and Depth

It is painfully clear that everyone who has said defensive coaching is the problem, was correct. Everyone that said defensive talent was the problem, was correct. And I will throw one more in there, depth is a huge problem.

Coach D - Not able to put his players in position to make plays. It is that simple. Cutcliff made a fool out of him today. Duke puts their running QB in and the LB's are still 7 yards behind the LOS. The pass rush was non existent and yet not one blitz on third downs. Even Duke found a way to blitz Morris in a few key situations since their DL was being manhandled. It is not rocket science. If there is no pass rush you have to invent some. How many times do we need to watch a RB dance around for a second and then go outside tackle and there be no one in sight? We cannot be that bad at understanding how to set and control the edges. So you have to ask yourself if this scheme is completely outdated for football today. The LB's look like they are on skates back there. They are not aggressive at all, read and react and get burned. Can someone please tell me what happened to the aggressive D we saw against Florida. Have we had a sack on first or second down all season? It is clear that the DL is told to run up field and not break contain. That is there main focus, not getting to the QB. Again read and react. OC's are just licking there chops to play against this scheme. Tell me how a Duke QB who had 7 INT's in two games does not even come close to throwing an INT? Simple, he was not put on his back all day.

Talent:
Defensive Line - An absolute no show. Even Chickillo has seemingly lost his only edge, hustle. We got no push all day long.
LB - Perryman is the only player that belongs on the field. Even he is outwitted sometimes. Yet he has to play the whole game because God forbid if he was not out there it would be a blood bath. Cornileus is just not UM talent. Armbrister is not as athletic as a UM LB should be although he does bring the wood on occasions. As a whole not one LB can play coverage.
CB - Played OK. But as the season has gone on they seem to be afraid of getting hurt and are tackling very bad.
S - Jenkins has regressed. His tackling technique is poor. Bush should have recovered by now. A real shame he is a shell of his former self. Highsmith and Rodgers, well I am not going there.

Depth - The DL in particular is completely out of gas. At the beginning of the season, while not world beaters, were bringing a good push on a majority of the snaps. Now a Duke OL is manhandling them. Pierre has become a JAG. 78 is showing us why he was a backup at VA.

There is one play that we have been gashed on for weeks now that both demonstrates bad coaching and lack of talent. The WR\RB screen play in which the Offensive player comes in motion and goes outside. He heads towards the wide side of the field toward a WR who has one on one matchup. For some reason Coach D refuses to send a defensive player in motion to follow him. It leads to a simple throw and all that needs to be done is the stationary WR performs a simple cut block. Boom, off goes the Offensive player being chased by a bad angle from a LB who for some reason did not follow him out there to begin with. Fellas this is a High School football play that we have watched over and over and over and over and we cannot defend it to save our lives. Why has Coach D not made an adjustment for this play? That is terrible coaching. The opposing OC is just laughing over there that this play keeps working week after week. And why do I say talent is an issue here? Because a football player has to be athletic and smart. If I am Perryman and Dorito told me not to cover that guy in the flat I would say ***** it. I am going after that guy because your scheme is not working. Coaching be damned I am going out and making that play. And after I make that play and we are in film study I would kindly ask the coach if he would like to rethink his approach because his did not work over and over and mine did on one try. It is absolutely inexcusable for Miami to continue to get gashed by the most basic of plays. And for that reason I blame everyone involved. What is scary is what if we actually played an exotic offense. Oregon would do bad things to us.

Bro u got some valid points.... But i do not want to hear the word "TALENT" used as an excuse ever.... Stars don't tranlate to field.... Coaching does... Game planning does.... Its obvious coach d never played a game of chess in his life he does a poor job of being strategic... We have a nice stable of athletes to compete with anyone.. some of the best defenses in cfb right now don't have the athletes we have... But they have good coaching and they execute to perfection... Duke team executed in the 2nd half didnt let us do ****... ******* embarrassing... I also blame Joe Paterno for not letting Sandusky get a hold of dorito... If he did... He wouldnt be here.. he'd be a tranny in a new jersey brothel... **** u joe pa... **** u to heeeelllllll!!!!!!

We have "athletes", who the **** cares. We dont have FOOTBALL PLAYERS. The D sucks period, coaching and talent. We have 4 LBS, 3 DES, 5 DTS committed and looking to still add a couple more. Our front 7 is pathetic. We have a Virginia castoff, a guy with 1 foot, 2 linebackers who cant cover anyone and 2 DEs who cant rush the passer. Add subpar DC and you have a recipe for all time ****** defense.

I too, don't want to hear about what players belong, which don't, and which quit.

If you at some time realize you are NEVER going to be able to take it to the other team, it's disheartening. Downright depressing. You can't be aggressive, but play after play, you can't do a damned thing because you have a crap job per the coach, and you dare not "freelance" from the "process," no matter how crappy and hopeless it is.

They're worn out, they're put in hopeless positions, they're put at a distinct disadvantage every play, and all at the insistence of their stubborn, dumbass coaches. So stubborn and dull, the coaches can't even make adjustments. They can't call in what defense to play in a timely manner.

So you've been on the field all game, every game, you can't use your skills and talents, you can't attack, you can't be aggressive, and THEN you're expected to maintain a high morale?

This HC and DC came from somewhere else, their experience is very limited, they're relative young and stubborn, and they can't figure out that they're not playing in the northeast US, with big, slow players.

The truth is - they don't know any better. This scheme is ALL they know, and when it doesn't work against clever, aggressive teams, they have no idea how to adjust to even attempt to make it work. That's why you don't see adjustments. They don't know how.

Doritos, go take that amateur hour crap back up north, and if you can talk Golden into going too, by all means, do so.

But go.

All praises due!!

I'll tell you one thing if Nick Saban had this team we would be 11-1 at worse with this piece of crap schedule. This all come down to coaching Al wants to keep his sorry asz best friend. I would fire everyone in the D coaching staff!! Enough with this bull crap that we don't have talent. Last time I checked we had way better classes than most of the teams we play.

theres no way anyone can blame this game on talent. no kid with a legit miami offer ever goes to duke. it's either the scheme or the coaches are not developing players the right way

Oregon would probably put 60 on us and Baylor since they run up the score even more would probably score 80

Bring in whole new Defense..............could be easier for existing players to learn and definitely new players. Drop this garbage bend but don't break montrosity. I know Big 10 fans that hate that defense.

Best post I've read in years

My Dad, a UM FB during the Mira years, was going crazy today. He kept screaming about how kids who have been tackling since youngsters can regress so badly in the Canes system.

He was of the opinion that with NO defensive coaching whatsoever today, players would instinctively swarm the ball and make plays.

Duke ran 4 plays, just like VT ran 4 plays. Duke ran the zone read option, the ******* Tebow run crap, and the WR screen and we couldn't stop it. Just like VT ran crossing routes all day. Pathetic. Talent my ***. 4th graders could stop that **** if they knew it was coming.
