Takeaways from tonight:


  1. STOP running the ball up the middle out of shotgun. Our RBs are getting the ball standing still with zero momentum. Get them in pistol, let them hit the handoff already moving downhill, and give them the ability to read the hole and cut left or right. Let these dudes RUN.
  2. Adidas stepped their game ALL the way up. Facemasks, helmets, jerseys, everything. And that small No. 10 patch on Mensah’s jersey? Chef’s kiss. Perfect. Small details matter.
  3. Defense needs to get more aggressive. Too much zone. Get the linebackers involved. Get the safeties involved. Stop sitting everybody 15 yards back. Foot on the ******* gas. Send 4. Send 5. Create pressure. Create havoc. DOMINATE.
  4. J.J. Dunnigan is a STAR.
  5. Wiley looked great

This is Miami Hurricanes heaven.

And for another, if there had to be 2 groups that need improvement, the D and the oline are it - given the coaches

O and D looked very vanilla. Seems like they were trying to cement what they taught in camp more than anything. We’ll see the safeties play closer to the LOS and cause havoc as we move along. O line was a little concerning but first game with a new and young group. Talent is there and will grow up. Solid opener and let’s hope OJ heals up.

Hold your horses mi amigo ... the line of scrimmage currently is being challenged.

That was the one thing I was frustrated by last night. It’s like SD completely forgot what turned the season around in November last year.
 
We ran out of pistol and got stuffed too. Just look at their dline and lbs reactions when we ran, was obvious they wanted to take that way

Not an excuse tho because even if a team like Stanford wants to take away the run we still have to run better

If you would have told me that we couldn’t get home rushing 4 last night against that depleted o line I would have laughed at you. But that is what we saw last night. 4 couldn’t get home so Heatherman was playing soft zone with those rather easily telegraphed fire blitzes to generate some pressure.

Heatherman might need to be in his bag this year to maximize this years defense

All I know is that if a run play doesn’t go for 10 yards some people are gonna fall apart and blame Dawson

It’s actually so goofy it’s entertaining at this point

Marty Brown had some nice runs relatively speaking. He looks like he’s trimmed down and bit more burst but could be wrong there

Any P4 team can take something away. The 70s Oklahoma teams dont exist any more.
