Here's to hoping a more sensible solution can be achieved than for the U to simply say we're taking our parking lot and going home.

Bro, you're being far too sensible for this crowd. One side is belly aching old geezers yelling at kids to keep it down. The other side is teenage kids trying to say that if the geezers don't provide the means for their ill behavior, then the geezers will be responsible for the consequences when the teenagers do what they were going to do anyway.

Bingo. Having an off campus stadium really amps the binge drinking to a next level. I've been to a lot of schools and a lot of different tailgates and the Hard Rock Stadium scene is more of a rampage drunk fest than schools that have the on campus stadium with the slow burn.

Now with Miami back in the national picture and having prime time games the school does not want to be responsible for it anymore because they've kneecaped their students by making them have a 40+ minute ride back to campus. Can't just walk back up your block to your dorm like most other schools.

Not necessarily. I've talked to friends who still live in Orlando and they've said that since UCF opened their on-campus stadium, taligating has exploded. Now, tens of thousands of kids show up to tailgate (drink) and never even go to the game.

Now, I'm not saying it doesn't get rowdy at Hard Rock because in certain sections it's crazy but that's mostly the fans, not the college kids.

Well UCF is all about their tailgate scene, but the point is those kids aren't getting behind the wheel of a car in a UCF sanctioned parking lot and driving 40 minutes back to their dorm. That's the only thing the school is worried about. They don't care about the kids getting ****ed up.

You guys really think that the lack of a university sanctioned student tailgate lot would protect the school's image (and possible liability) if a drunk student kills a bunch of people on the Palmetto en route on the hour + postgame drive back to the Gables?

This just seems like a lazy move by those refusing to adapt to one of the most geographically challenging tailgate situations for students in the country. And their bus situation wasn't an answer- especially TO the game. They seem to have no problem regulating/monitoring Greek parties on-campus. Should've just spent the resources to treat this as one big one a couple times per year.

Fraternity buses will surely still take man tailgaters to the game. They can't unload at the spot the schools buses do, so they usually let everyone off at like the Walmart or whatever that is (can't remember). The Buses never parked at the tailgate spot. So for the majority of students this wont likely change too much except for where they end up tailgating.

What this does is takes away the reserved spaces, so more student will end up driving because fraternities/organizations wont' be able to reserve one huge space. Instead there's going to be more smaller tailgates that take place all across the stadium. Which means more students driving to set them up, and since its not all in one section/part of the lot, the police are not really going to be able to monitor it at all. And providing students with EMT help is going to be a pain in the *** (they get called a lot due to the heat). And plus last year they just added a bunch of amentitys like water stations and food stands and ****, but no student is going to walk across a stadium to buy some food/water.

At the end of the day putting all the students/organizations/fraternities in one location that is heavily patrolled by police is better for everyone tailgating.

one negative I could see with this is there would be a lot more students late to the game or who never show up at all.

but there already are buses that they could get on if they did this.

but also, why would fraternities want to? the on campus fraternity parties are pretty strictly controlled. everyone that enters has to show their cane card and id, there's police surrounding the houses. And its puts the fraternity at a bigger risk of getting in trouble.

Alight people, settle down. Us UM fans always have to fight each other way too hard it seems. I am a student here. Myth #1 about tailgating is that the frats are the only ones who tailgate. Not true at all. The scuba club sponsors a tailgate and is good at sneaking school funds to spend on tailgates. My friend who is in the club got me in and I got more drunk there than I ever have at a frat. By the way, the 9 and 10 lots where student organizations were saved a tailgate spot is known as the "field of dreams" by the greek community. Frats hold all their tailgates there. The scuba club and others have always snuck their tailgates in general lots closer to the entrance and there is little police presence and zero policing from school admin.

I personally don't care about this so-called tailgating ban. Frats do not let just any guy into frat events at all, especially freshman guys like me unless they rush in the spring (freshman can't rush until after x-mas). Any girl through gets in pretty much no matter what. So I'm not really missing anything. A friend got me into the tailgate before GT and it was project X on fireball. Holy sh*t. People were getting insane drunk, people were throwing up, passing out, you name it. Guess what. Nothing will change. They are going to throw down at their off campus houses (they do this so they don't have to follow school rules governing frat parties) and take ubers or just ride the school sponsored busses to the game. Many students are more responsible than you think and do have DDs.

But college students are always one step ahead of people trying to crack down. Especially those who are underage. Many risk their entire livliehoods and purchase Chinese made fake ids to get ahold of alcohol. I saw firsthand three students were arrested outside Sandbar in Coconut Grove late Thursday night. I'm underage and save 20 dollar bills so I can bribe bouncers to let me in without a fake id. One dive bar in Coconut Grove allows this and I'm a regular there now.

But I never drink irresponsibly. I know my limits and don't push them. I would NEVER drive drunk. Especially when I simply do care far more about the game then tailgates and drinking anyway. The same can't be said for everyone. So when they tailgate this weekend, and it will happen, lets all hope everyone somehow get to and from the game safely. God please help us, we'll need it.
