Syracuse Post Game Plus/Minus:

R
Really wish we had a running play other than the read option. I'm no schematic wizard and never played but seems like it's been rather predictable? Or Rosier is reading it wrong? Or I don't know what the **** I'm talking about?

Its a blend of the Rpo, zone read, and just handoffs from shotgun.

Rosier is just limited so he doesnt run the offense as smooth as it could run. He is very premeditated in his play.

People blame the playcalling but Rosier is a limited qb. Hes learning on the job.

People blaming playcalling are absolute morans.

I didn't love the play calling, and I've been defending Rick more than most, but if our WRs (I'm looking at your all-American ***, Richards) catch passes, we win this game in a ******* blowout. It's like 24-0 at the half if we catch ******* passes and the 2nd half I'm sipping tequila, not pounding beers.

great to have you back Dan

i'm with you on the offensive coaching. No Langham until late again. poor 2nd half playcalling, I'm glad we got the win but the same things keep popping up on O. This O is plenty talented. We're legit 7 deep at WR, good O-line (despite lack of push on the run), good tight end (who we finally decided to use and then subsequently abandon), and a star at RB who started the season as our #2 back (because the other kid was a beast too)

we were kicking their *** in the 1st half, then the real Mark Richt decided that Mr. Hyde had to go away. Rosier is talented enough to take this team far. Our D is talented enough to go far. Richt is not maximizing our offensive talent and its the only reason we don't look like a playoff team right now. With a good playcaller we'd be a top 3-5 team right now who has dominated everyone in front of us to date.

We're undefeated and #8 , but we're not playing to our full potential and that has been squarely on the long spouts of ineffective offense due to Richt's playcalling.

Glad we got the win, but we can't keep playing like this on O and expect to not get surprised by someone

Anyway you can contact this poor coaching staff and give them a few pointers on how to run block and receivers catch passes?

90% of the fans discount every win. Obviously if Miami beats a team and doesn't blow them out, the opponent was garbage and we played down to them. Toledo is really good - nope, a garbage small conference team. FSU - their sh#tty record is evidence that they suck. Duke? Joke basketball school. GT? We got lucky. Syracuse? So what they beat THE CURRENT NCAA FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS and we have held every single team well below there scoring average. The W 's don't matter since we aren't doing it with enough flair. To quote the former governor of Minnesota, "bunch of slackjaw f######s in here."

What are people allowed to comment on?

We won and you are back. Great ****ing win.

Props to the four dbs we dressed. They locked those "nation leading" wrs down.

Would you rather have 4 DBs dressed or have 6 and their names be Mayes and Henley???

I’ll wait.

I was taking a shot at ESPN's poor reporting. Quite happy with all of the DB's today, frat. R e l a x. Relax

The reason we look disjointed is we arent there yet in terms of overall miami type talent, even MR knows that but hes winning which is a good thing. Imagine when he gets this roster proper with real UM depth at every spot

I got you D but you shouldn't need a team of futre HOF's to produce consistently on the offensive side of the ball. Lesser teams do it EVERY WEEKEND. Richt's calling/designing/executing the offensive side (for the most part) has been dog**** the past two years.

He does less with more every week. We have plenty of talent to have an explosive offense. ****, we show it some of the time. Case in point, our third down /redzone conversion rate. That is 100% coaching bro. Execution 101 and we've been failing miserably.

Agree with this.

I still don't like Richt's play calling. To clarify I just wouldn't give the a 'minus' for this game. It was a better game by them than I've seen for the most part.

We can and need to be much better. VT is tough. ND is very tough.

It has nothing to do with the "play calling" and all to do with the pedestrian system we seem to committed to. We do NOTHING to put stress on the defense. Milk toast offense.

Richt is past his prime as an offensive mind and it shows. Doesn't help that he has a relatively green offensive staff that he can't lean on. Pair that with his ball boy son as the QB coach and there ya have it.

I think it's fair game to criticize a million aspects - play calling, execution, depth, ****- you want to comment on bad recruiting, fine (wrong though). What I think is b.s. are the posters (AND THE MEDIA) who say we are playing sh#tty opponents. Aside from BCU, we have played average to good teams in every game.

Toledo is 6-1.
Duke is 4-4
FSU has on, paper, the 2nd most five star players
GT is currently 3-2, but a challenge to any team
Syracuse just beat the defending national champs

Every team plays a number of average to good teams- and guess what, they fall one by one. UW, Auburn, WSU, Clemson - all managed to get beat by average to good teams. Yet we have found a way to win each one and stand alone atop the ACC.

I don't know if we win this game in a "blowout". It definitely would be helpful if we caught those passes:

1. Drop #1: +4

3rd and Goal at SYR 1
(7:29 - 1st) Malik Rosier pass incomplete to Ahmmon Richards

This is a relevant drop. Instead we kick the FG. If (instead) we score the TD + EP = +4

2. Drop #2: Irrelevant

1st and 10 at MIAMI 16
(1:59 - 1st) Malik Rosier pass incomplete to Travis Homer

This drop didn't matter. On the very next play Homer caught a pass for 24 yards to get the first down. Also, we scored a TD on this drive.

3. Drop #3: Irrelevant

1st and 10 at MIAMI 40
(1:29 - 1st) Malik Rosier pass incomplete to Ahmmon Richards

This drop also didn't matter. Two plays later, Herndon caught a pass and took it 35 yards. Also, we scored a TD on this drive.

4. Drop #4: +4

1st and 10 at SYR 29
(11:41 - 2nd) Malik Rosier pass incomplete to Ahmmon Richards

This is a relevant drop although a TD is NOT guaranteed especially with our red-zone TD%. Let's assume we would get the TD on this drive/play. Instead we kick the FG.
If (instead) we score the TD + EP = +4

5. Drop #5: The Full Extension Berrios "Drop"

2nd and 9 at SYR 47
(12:19 - 3rd) Malik Rosier pass incomplete to Braxton Berrios

I don't consider this a "drop" as this would be an extremely difficult reception. Running full speed, with a full extension, is a very difficult play.

6. Drop #6: Irrelevant

1st and 10 at MIAMI 28
(4:37 - 4th) Malik Rosier pass incomplete to Jeff Thomas

Langham caught a pass for a first down on the next play.

--------------------------------

Please note the following:

- I didn't count the Richards drop where we had the ineligible player downfield as this play wouldn't have counted.

- Also, on some of the drops (not the Richards TD drop) there is no guarantee we end up with a TD if the drop didn't occur.

- Play-by-Play: Syracuse vs. Miami - Play-By-Play - October 21, 2017 - ESPN

- Remember, drops are part of the game. They happen, mistakes are made.

Everything you say was spot on. We could have thrown for 500 yards, easily. Also Rosier is not too adept making th3 right reads in the run game. My gripe with Richt is i wish he would run our of different formations. I know he has them because I saw single back formations against Duke. No way should we get 3 picks and it be that close. And I know it's 4 but Jackson fumbled and negated it. Oh and btw, I can and we can all complain about all the yards we gave up on the ground. But I have to give mad props to our defense for keeping teams from scoring TD's. I mean at the end of the day, points are what matter.

It is ridiculous IMO. There are good teams and bad teams. There are teams in between. There are teams that make bowls and teams that won't. At the end of the year you will know who was good and who was bad.

With that said, you can't control what a team does before and after they play you. They may lose a bunch of games (e.g. Duke), they may win some games against non-P5 teams (e.g. Toledo). Time will tell.

If I had to guess, ND and VT are the most difficult opponents we will play (on paper) besides our rivals. It isn't even close either.

IMO, one thing is very obvious...

Duke

Points Allowed: 6
Yards Allowed: 349
Turnovers Forced: 2
Sacks: 6
Tackles For Loss: 11

FSU

Points Allowed: 20
Yards Allowed: 406
Turnovers Forced: 2
Sacks: 4
Tackles For Loss: 9

Georgia Tech

Points Allowed: 17 (that onside kick is not on the D)
Yards Allowed: 289
Turnovers Forced: 0
Sacks: 2
Tackles For Loss: 7

Cuse

Points Allowed: 19
Yards Allowed: 399
Turnovers Forced: 4
Sacks: 4
Tackles For Loss: 9

So in ACC Play (so far) [Per Game Average]

Points Allowed: 15.5
Yards Allowed: 359.75
Turnovers Forced: 2.25
Sacks: 4
Tackles For Loss: 9

Remember boys and girls, this is against the ACC and the ACC alone. There are issues, but it is difficult to really complain about the above.

Coach is a giant puss for not going for it on 4th and goal in the first qtr. You're at home and it's early. Just sack up and play D if you dont make it.

Disagree....u get easy points early. I'm fine with that decision by Richt.

Actually the oline never got a push to score the td

So, Dan, what you are saying is that we are undefeated but have have a lot of room to improve. That means that by the time we have to face bama for all the marbles, we can be much better.

I don't want to hear about drops. This isn't just about today's game. Our issues on offense go back to last season...and maybe we could run the ball if we ran more than 3 runs out of the same formation each time.

I think you just proved my point. We probably would have been up at least 21-0, and the game likely would have been over the way it was going. The Berrios "drop" would have been a good catch, but it went right through his hands, and the way he's been playing this year, he should have caught it. Could actually have been more than 21-0.
