SWASEY GONE

Last season Richt hired Scott Cochran's (Alabama) top assistant Mark Hocke. He spent 6 seasons at Bama. If you're gonna grab someone's protege, Bama is a nice place to look.

Here he is mic'd up for a workout:

He's like 12 yrs old lol

Not doubting he knows his ****, just caught me off guard

not really impressed with that guy either. not savage enough.
Savage & strength/conditioning don't go together. Challenge yes, savage no. Many many advancements in physical training. Need someone who is not only a good trainer but is educated in the field AND keeps current.

He is terrible. I heard the kids don't even do legs during the season. You have to keep up with squats, etc to maintain overall strength.

My son trained under Swasey. He he thought he was a great mentor and very good college coach. I always had arguments with him about our players not as strong compared to SEC players. He always defended him while I always wanted him to be replaced. His argument was always about how good Swasey was to young players with little or no parenteral guidance at home. He said Swasey was a father figure to many football players and had positive influence on their lives, etc.....

My son views explain, at least partially, Swasey's popularity among players and ex-canes. It doesn't justify his retention as head of S&C program which is in dire need of massive upgrade in the strength department. Richt has to look at it from on-field result prospective. Someone else on the staff can serve that father figure role.

Thanks for sharing.
Swasey sounds like a standup guy who meant alot to many of these young men.
But I think it was time for a change in a results-based business.

Best of luck to Swasey and his family and I hope he lands somewhere on his feet.

How many times were we outscored and just plain destroyed in the 2nd half of games the last 10 years. The Swasey era has been the total antithesis of the "4th quarter belongs to us" mantra during the dynasty years.

i think our kids being weak and undersized under shannon was more a reflection of Swasey because RS didnt micro-manage everything like golden.

We went from one extreme (skinny, weak, fast kids) to the other (fat, strong, slow kids) with Shannon and Golden. Hopefully Richt finds a happy medium.

Strong???!?!? If I remember correctly Owens and Young came in as freshmen were instantly some of the strongest players on defense . Strong(football strong) and slow are oxymorons . When you get stronger, usually get faster.

Swasey is probably a great guy, unfortunately you can't keep doing the same thing and expect a different result.... That's insane

What is this nonsense? GTFOH.
Awesome, Richt fired Swasey, but what's Richt, gonna do about Richt? He overhauled His S&Cing staff at UGA a few years ago and still got fired. He didn't get fired for His Xs & Os...He didn't get fired for having bad ACs, ****, most of His ACs got just as good, or better jobs...He got fired because He didn't have the same thing Miles didn't have with Moffitt as His S&Cing coach...

MOJO!!!

COUNTRY CLUB RICHT!!!

LET'S HOPE THAT'S CHANGED!!!

WE'LL SEE!!!

from our friends at the WEZ, repeated for a ferman article:

It also didn't help Swasey's cause that he struggled to pass an NCAA mandated certification course for strength coaches this past season, preventing him from personally working with the team in his weight room.

"I don't think that had anything to do with it, not from what I was told," he said.

HE STRUGGLED? YOU MEAN, HE DID NOT PASS? HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? AND TO SAY IT HAD NO CONNECTION WITH HIS FIRING?

Kacey Rodgers jus tweeted that he ain't coming back cuz Swasey got fired...

...though y'all might wanna know

Perryman and Duke not thrilled with the news.

I appreciate both of these guys and feel for each of them in that they played under the tutelage of the worst coaching staff at UM in recent memory, but this right here is exactly why you don't consult with former players in regard to new hires.

I remember kids in tears when Shannon was fired. Badgely refereed to Folden as the best coach in the country. Joaquin said that guys were lobbying for Cristobal during the early phases of the coaching search when approached by Korn Ferry. When you develop relationships with coaches, you're more inclined to speak positively on their behalf even if their performance doesn't mirror the praise.

I'm thrilled Richt has cleaned house. Scott appears to be the only man from the Folden era left standing, but he seemed to do a good job with the tight ends, so if he's the only one we retain, so be it. Purge the rest.

I'm happy that we've cleansed almost everyone from the past regime. It was long past due....

A big-time S&C coach is needed....

Hopefully we get one....
