SWASEY GONE

Miami was 113th in yards per carry on offense and 123rd (dead last) in yards per carry defensively.

Aside from a complete lack of discipline (last in NCAA in penalty yards), being soft and weak was one of the biggest issues inside the program. Dorito contributed to that number, obviously, but the big guys on this team looked like they were huffing helium and chugging butter.

We need a brutal off-season program to start transforming the physical composition and attitude of this team.
true but aint nobody changing Alex Gall mane

Like he said we need to croot dudes

Guys, stop being naive, the only way you can get an edge in strengthen and conditioning is not by hiring another coach. This is not rocket science. You need start a perfornance enhancing drug program just like Lance Armstrong had with the U.S. Postal team. Look what Alabama did to Michigan state last night. There wasn't any trick plays or better strategy. Below is what I posted in other thread but I think is better suited for this one.

Alabama dominates in the trenches to a degree that suggests they cheat. Maybe its great recruiting and player development or just maybe they are juicing. The relative lack of dominance int the NFL of Alabama players suggests that with aggressive PED testing they just dont seem that good. There is always that question

This. Both teams were even in the first and second quarters. Then fatigue starts kicking in. Are these big time programs being tested for EPO, growth hormones, insulin, testosterone, DHEA, IGF-1, cortisone and blood doping? Remember Lance Armstrong? Well, I have been following cycling for a long time, back in the mid 90s, Armstrong use to lose anywhere from 20 to 30 min on the last climb of the day. Then all of the sudden, he started winning the Tour de France. I always told my friends that Armstrong was the biggest lie in sports and 10 years later it was proven that he was. Some of the people in this forum started taking about Tommy Moffitt, strengthen and conditioning coach at LSU. Makes me a little uncomfortable, that he follows, Michael Rassmussen, a disgrace Dutch cyclist, who was kicked out of the tour the France in 2007 and consequently suspended two years for using the drugs I mentioned. He was never heard from again. It is no secret in cycling, that the biggest drug dealers are the cyclist themselves, they know how and where to get these drugs. Maybe it is just a coincidence, but in today's world of sports, where millions of dollars are on stake, I guess you need to get an edge.

Put it this way ......when HGH first made its way into college football. Miami was the "Alabama" back then. There was a "program"' in place .
It's sad to say but this is why I want moffitt back. As a former D2 player myself I know first hand
PED's are ALL OVER the sport. Just like giving recruits money is.

Weed the men from the boys. I'd wager there will be some major weeding out and transfers coming from some of these soft *** kids.

My son trained under Swasey. He he thought he was a great mentor and very good college coach. I always had arguments with him about our players not as strong compared to SEC players. He always defended him while I always wanted him to be replaced. His argument was always about how good Swasey was to young players with little or no parenteral guidance at home. He said Swasey was a father figure to many football players and had positive influence on their lives, etc.....

My son views explain, at least partially, Swasey's popularity among players and ex-canes. It doesn't justify his retention as head of S&C program which is in dire need of massive upgrade in the strength department. Richt has to look at it from on-field result prospective. Someone else on the staff can serve that father figure role.

eh, you don't hate on them. Several of these kids should have never been recruited by a D1 school. Thats on our former HC. I stopped following recruiting a couple of years ago, but I'm starting to get back into it now. Its great to be a Miami Hurricane again.

He sucks at his job and represents a terrible trend around the Miami program: a lack of performance-based decisions when evaluating coaches.

People want to retain guys because they either played here, are from the area, or are well liked. It needs to start and end with one thing: are you doing your job well?

I really hope Richt is the guy to break up this stupid mentality that's plagued the program -- the desire to place personal relationships, backgrounds, or affiliations over performance. Based on the body count he's racking up, it appears he is.

It will be interesting to see how the team responds.

Since we are on the Board, I am curious to see the reaction re: attrition vs dead weight/weeding out

Ultimately, it will be very interesting to see how the team responds, if players bolt, what their reaction is and how different the initial reaction is compared to the reaction after the last change in coaches.

That is all that matters is how the team responds.

Bingo! The Philip Buchannon's and Duke Johnson's may get upset, but they weren't in an objective position. Richt was. Fixing the program wasn't going to come without any tough decisions. When you've had a decade of irrelevance in football like we've had, there's not one person who isn't subject to be replaced for an upgrade.

Agreed. The rest is merely my curiosity.

There was no way these same players were going to suddenly start paying attention to a tougher more demanding Swasey. They knew him as they knew him. He was their friend who pushed them but didn't push them to the point of discomfort.

This move absolutely had to be made if Richt wants to change the bodies and mentalities of the players because there was no way a "new" Drill Sgt. Swasey was going to do it.
