The Herald hasn't experienced much luck with female sportswriters. Susan Miller Degnan, Linda Robertson, Dave Barry's wife.

when i was on the copy desk, Susan ****ing (who wrote about fishing and outdoor sports) was one of the best writers at the paper, period. Her copy had almost no mistakes. And Michelle Kaufman is good. Christine Brennan is probably the biggest name female journalist to have written for the Herald sports section.

Casual fans. Mothers of players. People who dont know much more than the names of the HC and a few select players. Your co worker who hates football but needs to keep up w it so they dont feel left out in the break room conversation Monday morning.

By the way, the only mothers of players I ever met were vicious die-hards.

Ah, you people don't get it. Susan is a gift from God for Manny and the program. She's a sweet, harmless woman, a female journalistic equivalent of Joe Biden. She a little slow and asks silly questions - really love her follow ups - but Manny should be delighted to put up with her. She's not a late 20-something pitbull looking to make her mark in a climb to a columnist or TV gig. She's not tossing out gotcha questions or trying to tear down the program.
For true football fans or anyone with a brain, she's like your aunt Mildred at Thanksgiving dinner. But hey, just laugh with her and be happy - the alternative could be a lot worse.

Interesting perspective. I was on the sideline and in booth with her many times and she is a nice lady.

True in RE to players mothers. Should've said trophy wives.

Basically folks with little to no football IQ. If you read her articles you see why she asks the questions she asks. She's trying to form a narrative for whatever story or recap she's writing at the time. Those annoying questions she asks never appear. Only the responses. Not defending her btw. Just saying we're not who she writes for.

Listening to the post practice presser with Mike Rumph right now. Every media outlet had their Canes writer on the call, and all had a decent question for Rumph about the CB's, rotation, etc. SMD used her question to ask Rumph what he thinks about the possible extra year of eligibility for players due to covid. :/
