no, it wasn't a Rembrandt but W is a W and you can see just how close and how far this program is from really getting back to the premiere level. Miami beat a gutty Cuse squad 27-19 but really it should've been an easier game if not for some drops from Ahmonn Richards(who still ended up with a productive yet frustrating day back at the office). Miami left(or dropped) at least 10-14 points on the table.

Some thoughts:

- Hats off to the D. Yeah, they had some busts(like giving up 3rd and 25) but to hold Babers unit to 19 is a great achievement and the TO Chain was being brought out liberally in the first half. I know people hate our rotating of players but in todays game and tempo - especially playing a team like the Cuse - you better develop depth and even if you dont have it- still trot guys out there because even the best conditioned players only have so many good plays in them

And the last couple of drives where they held off a hard-charging Orangeman team was testament to the depth of Miami front 4 which from the very first play kept hitting Dungey over and over again. I have great respect for Dungey, Kellen Winslow Jr would call him a 'soldya' of the highest degree. But the run defense remains problematic, over 200 yards given up. On the flipside they kept harrasing Dungey for much of the game

- Michael Jackson certainly had a great game with his multiple INT's(he had a lease on that TO Chain in the first half) but Malek Young did a great job I thought on Isahamel(sp?). He has really turned into a very good corner. In terms of the secondary, I noticed Knowles played very little and two frosh, Smith and Carter played a lot. Yeah, I think they will continue to be worked into the rotation as the season goes along.

- Zach Feagles was feable on his first kick but to his credit the rest of the game he did a nice job of pinning the Cuse deep in their territory.

- As for the offense, short-yardage run blocking/scheme is still problematic. And that's the problem in not just coming off the ball, playing in the gun' exlusively, not having a true FB and not being able to run ISO's.

- Based on what I saw today, I start putting the ball in Rosier's hands and just trust the guy. Yeah I said it. Don't protect him, let him play ball. Once again, when it mattered, he's Joe Cool and take away drops he has a monster game statistically and this game isn't all that close. He did this today with very little semblance of a running game till the very end. Speaking of the run game, Homer once again delivered big runs later. He is great in these late situations vs units that are fatigued

- Ahem, gogeta4, how bout our guy Chris Herndon? Lets keep utilizing this guy. He is a real weapon. A future 10 year NFL'er. By the way, we actually saw a few shifts and even a motion from our offense today!!

- OK, should we check Jeff Thomas social media account or is he all good now? This kid is coming on strong week by week.

- Anyone else wonder why we didn't run more clock during that last TD drive? Or is that just who we are - a team that has a certain cadence?

- Overall, it all looked soooo good early on and then became very frustrating to see Cuse get back into it and make it difficult. But you see that we need a few more parts/depth but this team has real character and grit. Get past UNC next week and then onto a huge stretch vs Vatech and ND.

Hey, Miami won. And you know what they say about winning - it beats losing

Well put. The team has shown a lot of hustle and heart this season. The game could have been easier but its wasn't.

I'll take the 'W'.

I think we didn't run clock on that TD drive because Richt was very aware that we may need time should Syracuse score again.

It wasn't a given that we were going to stop them.

My only issue with this team really continues to be the lack of commitment to the run.

I thought, early on, that Miami was coming in with a really wise game plan with an emphasis on running the ball as they came out with 6 rushes and they mixed it in nicely with three balls to Herndon. I thought this was the formula to success. Lots of run (Homer and Rosier), lots of Herndon, more bubble screens.

After that initial drive, I thought the mid-portion of the game saw Rosier try and force meals into Richards mouth regardless of his stature. Richards ended up with a mixed performance with at least four legit, on-him-drops, ultimately leaving points on the field. When not feeding Richards, I thought we just relied too much on throwing the ball unnecessarily. I thought clock management toward the end of the game, while not poor, we were definitely not killing valuable seconds late in the game that would have ultimately sealed the game a little sooner.

The defense, with Manny Diaz is going to have its fair share of big plays allowed. Its the nature of the beast with a blitz heavy scheme. However, I thought the DL played outstanding and really beat the **** out of Dungey. They were being held all game, too. The interior would get skinny and the ref just wouldn't throw the flag.

Our luck will run out soon enough, but for now...I am going to ride...love this team.

Can't decide if we are trying to win games and are not that great at it or trying to lose them and are very bad at it... Sometimes it's hard to tell. Survive and advance

Good win against a scrappy Cuse team. After watching them today its easy to see how this team upset a sleep walking Clemson. Lucky for us that upset happened and got our teams full attention

Man this team is just so frustrating to watch. On offense one game it terrible play calling the next game it drops and our inability to get any push in 3rd and 1 or 2 with better talent and RBs on our team is embarrassing and irritating. All week I heard we'd be able to run the ball vs Syracuse and up until that Homer TD run we could barely run the ball. Meanwhile, on the other side of the ball field everyone we face is getting 200+ yards on the ground vs us. Until our run defense and rushing offense gets better and, like Richt said "impose our will", we will continue to be in these nail biting games. I'm glad we're just bending and not breaking but your playing with fire giving up that many yardage on the ground. We gave up ONE TD which is amazing considering how potent Syracuse's offense can be but our run defense is keeping us from being up there defensive with the Alabama, Michigan, Wisconsin and it frustrating watch because we're |this| close to being the elite of the elite defensively.

Thomas needs 4-5 touches a game on O, he's just one of those dudes. I don't care if it's a reverse, a toss at rb, screen, wildcat or anything else. He needs the rock in space. The you eventually have a decoy off those plays.

Canes have work to do on special teams. Seems like we lose the Special Team battle week in and week out. If not for Berrios catching and returning line drive punts, our special teams would be abysmal. With all the athletes Miami has I would expect us to be better on special teams.

We are two drops from completely ****ting on a Syracuse team that beat clemson last week

Let's appreciate the win ,no injuries really, and move on to 1-7 UNC

I was screaming to run the play clock down during the last drive..After.we scored the TD the thought came to me that maybe Rosier was.thinking .running ths clock down would throw the offense off their rhythm. A good rhythm can be important in keeping a drive going. Not the normal.logic in that situation but it worked

I wish Richt would realize we're not a good power running team. Seems like we have a drive stall within the 10 once a game bc we waste at least two downs trying to pound in.

We're not there yet boss. Get more creative w the run game in these situations.

I don't think Richt thought we could run consistently on their defensive front. There were lots of no back 5 wide formations early long before we attempted to establish any semblance of a running attack.

2 yards out vs syracuse and couldnt punch it in. That is a problem. Have to get stronger up front.

I like our chances against anybody when we go 4/5 wide. Take away those drops, and this game isn't close.

I didn't mind. Just wondering why in this game more than others?

Rather it's execution, drops or an average OL, Richt's offense still lacks consistency and a rhythm. I'll still say he needs to hire an OC.

DL continues to get gashed around the corner and up the middle big time today.

Why does Diaz continue to loop Joe Jack into the middle, when he's a speed rusher.

All of us would have been furious if we landed the guys on Cuse's DL, but they are an excellent example of how evaluations are not an exact science. Our OL was rarely able to run block those kids.

The DB's actually played the best coverage so far this year, but boy do we need more speed. Quan Johnson too small and slow. Redwine can't get up field fast enough on end runs. Our LB's though solid are not the speedy types of years past.

Miami out-gained SU 480 to 399 and without those drops, the Canes have well over 500 yards. This offense for as inconsistent as it has been is also very productive but they need to find a way to be better in short yardage and goal line situations...
