Super Regional @ Louisville -- Schedule and Discussion

why does this have to turn into a referendum on JD and how many years he gets etc. isn't that really a question to answer after the season is done?

for example, if he wins the CWS, 75% of you will say MAKE HIM A COACH FOR LIFE. if he gets blown out by louisville, 75% will say FIRE HIM ON THE TARMAC.

amirite?
I think he's earned himself next year for sure. Regardless of how the Louisville series goes.

I doubt anyone is making any decision to commit beyond that at this point in time. If he goes and wins the CWS or even made it to the final, I'd say you can pencil him into 2027, almost regardless of how 2026 plays out.

If he wins the CWS he's probably signing a multi year contract that we'll never be able to buy out and will keep him here into the 2030s. This administration may do that if he makes it to Omaha.

Buddy only shows up when the teams are winning. Took his victory laps when he supposedly claimed that he hired Mario and had completely disappeared by MTSU in 2022. Hasn't said a thing about JD since his comments about how impressive he was in his interview and how it was a no brainer. Then, they had a losing record year 1 and he just now came out of the wood works.

The most unlikeable guy around this university by a long shot.
Rudy is the ol fat unathletic kid that likely had parents telling him how great he is and was always picked last in kick ball in grade school.

Thats fine...(and not directed at you)

But take a step back. Losing record last year. Horrible start this year, a nice 12-15 game spurt that saved our season where Hugus, Ciscar and Cuvet carried us...along with a lot of bottom feeder teams (NC State and Tech were good series wins).

Then we bomb the final few games, get humiliated in the ACC Tourney. Get in due to our SOS and have the planets align with a mediocre region the lowest 1 seed, an Ivy and a Bama team that since April was middle of the pack.

Now all of the sudden we have the second coming of Coach Fraser and he isnt going anywhere? I shouldnt be surprised with how some of you say Miami works from the inside but if we lose this super and then next year hover just above .500 again and go 0-2/1-2 in a regional as a 2-3 seed does that make you think JD is getting better year after year? Its 2025 and if you are running an athletic program where you try to win you should be evaluating all sports almost yearly if not every other year. (Football contracts can be massive so sometimes you have to roll with it for a few years).

I dont know...I watch this team and I dont see anything where I go "Wow this team is coached so well we do __________ better than anyone." I see a gritty team that wins despite its shortcomings and just seems to have some magic in it. But with the roster next year it will be fairly young but it will be as talented as almost anyone in the ACC short of FSU, Clemson and GTech (Tech is going to be outstanding next year if they keep everyone).

All that being said I'm ready cheer my face off this weekend and in the back of my mind I'm thinking how can I pull off a few days in Omaha.
There were several signs of poor coaching decisions, even this weekend.

We do not have a boat load of talent, but we have a decent amount. The freshmen arms, Cuvet, and Williams definitely helped save JDs ***.

Sorry I'm not completely sold.

who rose to be a star within the Republican Party helping George Bush get elected, then became an advisor to President Bush and then becoming essentially the COO of UM and COS to the President and a pretty effective university administrator (that's usually an oxymoron) that helped us land Mario, Rad and get money into sports again.

other than that , he's not done ****e

stevie wonder saw it and agrees

I think whether by design or not JD and staff were smart in going out and getting as many guys with AB’s, Innings Pitched, games played, etc as possible. It’s paid off in the sense that most of these kids have seen and been a part of every type of game and don’t get rattled.

Age is starting to win across all college sports. Michigan and Ohio State had rosters filled with kids who played a ton of football and mixed in guys like Smith.

Hoops most good teams are building rosters with 2nd and 3rd year guy and sprinkle in 1-2 stud freshman.

Once Omaha is set let’s see how many teams are running out a bunch of freshman all over the field.

With this Super Regional appearance, all the JD haters need to just know that there is literally zero circumstance where he isn't our coach for at least 2 more seasons. And really with this appearance he's likely to get a little more money to spend on the roster which should build a good enough roster to where making regionals is basically sure-thing. Which means he is probably here even longer. Id think he gets minimum 5 years here tbh. Unless the Admin wants a Championship, and isn't happy with a super regional appearance every 4yrs or so, I don't see him going anywhere

1. I said JD would be back even before our last 2 regular-season series.

2. "More money" only matters if guys want to play at Miami. Fortunately, this little run is making that more likely/palatable for the better Portal players. So, HEY, we might actually USE all the money that is already available.

3. It would be nice to bring some fire to the coaching staff to offset JD's passivity. It's one thing to be a "player's coach", but the way JD does it...is a bit much...

Is there any chance we host? Don’t they submit bids. Did I miss this?

There was no bid on the super-regional. Higher seed gets to host. Louisville.

I think that is if seeds are tied, there is a bidding process. But UL was higher seeded so off we go.

This is definitely changing the landscape of college sports, and I guess JD has to get credit for overhauling the roster, even if they weren't household names.

And if this weekend is evidence, his evaluations found several diamonds in the rough (DWill, Smith, Ogden, Hugus, etc). His strategy appears to be a mix of strong character, older players w experience mixed in w Freshman and Sophomores w talent.

Let's hope he's on to something in baseball. Link Jarrett took a similar approach 2 years ago and it's working.

Bama was certainly one of the toughest 2 seeds out there. Easily better than NCST, Oklahoma, WVU, Louisville, Florida, TCU, Arizona, Kansas, Wake, UC Irvine, and Northeastern.

Of the 4 not mentioned... probably better talent than GT but I'll give the nod to the ACC champion. DBU looked like a national seed until they lost their conference tournament. Alabama is probably tougher than them. Duke is playing good ball but I'd rather see them than Bama. Hard to judge UTSA but they're clearly a tough matchup.

USM is a hard place to play. Top 10 attendance, probably top 5 intimidating atmosphere when they get going. And then it ended up being one of the few regions that had a 4 seed get hot.

Top to bottom, I'd say Hattiesburg was in the top 3 just by the eye test and ignoring RPI. Oxford was up there, Conway, Clemson, and Austin round out the top 5. Knoxville, Fayetteville, Auburn, Chapel Hill, Eugene, Tallahassee, LA, and Nashville were super weak.

That's a weighted avg RPI of the regionals. 2nd column is RPI averaged regular. First column is RPI weighed to 1st seed then .8 2nd seed, .6 3rd, and .15 4th seed

I'm not saying anyone is wrong being a JD haters btw. I'm just stating a fact that no matter how much anyone thinks he isn't a guy that'll get us close to a championship he's gonna be here 5+ years...

So I was pretty spot on. I think RPI seriously overrates Knoxville and Corvallis. Especially Knoxville. Must have had Wake way too high.

Rudy Fernandez was in DBC twitter space post game last night, and he had strong words of encouragement for JD, and said something like JD is here to stay
Rudy Fernandez can **** off. No one emulates the cancer that is university of miami athletics department like that man.

Edit: I see everyone went in on Rudy as well 🤣 good to see.

Great. Hi Rudy..here some advice on behalf of most UM fans…

Maybe you should take your bum**** *** back to politics (like that’s some ringing endorsement - they’re all crooks and **** people for the most part) and get away from the Univ of Miami as fast as possible. Thanks!
