Correct, if we'd have won on Sunday night, we'd have gotten the extra day of rest that Louisville got.

All the brackets on the left side are Fri-Sun, all the others are Sat-Mon. So we screwed ourselves out of a day of rest by not winning Sunday night. And the NCAA of course decided that we play until 12:30am on Monday, and have to turn right back around and play Friday at 3:00. Wheras Louisville was probably back home by midnight Sunday night. Oh well, no excuses, play like a champion.

Aside from one bad inning on Sunday night, the Canes kinda dominated some really good teams in that regional (Bama and USM). Lots of momentum for next weekend.

No matter what happens this weekend, this has to be the jumping off point to getting the baseball program back where it needs to be. The last decade plus have mostly been an embarrassment for a major program located in South Florida. Hopefully JD and the people in charge of baseball know how to take advantage this momentum.

With this Super Regional appearance, all the JD haters need to just know that there is literally zero circumstance where he isn't our coach for at least 2 more seasons. And really with this appearance he's likely to get a little more money to spend on the roster which should build a good enough roster to where making regionals is basically sure-thing. Which means he is probably here even longer. Id think he gets minimum 5 years here tbh. Unless the Admin wants a Championship, and isn't happy with a super regional appearance every 4yrs or so, I don't see him going anywhere

Fans are fans of the team not the manager. If the Canes are going to Omaha regularly then all is good. Pee Wee Herman can be the manager.

Let's just hope this super regional appearance brings better talent at some positions in 2026 and beyond. Better players will solve some (not all) of issues with JD, and quite frankly Laz. JD is a Cane so the Admin is not running him off anytime soon. I want to see us recruit and develop pitchers on a regular basis if that is what JD and Laz "expertise" is. Not sure Dominguez is the answer as a hitting coach either - I have seen no improvement at the plate in kids like Renzo, Torres, Peralta. I watch alot of TN baseball as my kid goes there, and Manny Marin (one time UM recruit) has improved over the course of the season, as has Levi Clark, their other heralded frosh.
 
JD has earned next year. But lets just make sure we are all aware that Supers are the Minimum or a hard fought 2nd game in a region final.

We cant be 32-26 with a .500 ACC record next year and not make it out of regionals with the roster we will have returning and likely adding a few really nice pieces.

Its either that or like some have said we are a school content with a good run every 3-4 years. Which would be very disappointing.

So from what I gather Louisvilles weakness is their pitching? But they pitched well in their regional...
 
Louisville has won only 2 weekend series since April 1 (plus went 3-0 in the regional)

Swept BC (home)
Lost 2/3 to NCST (away)
Lost 2/3 to Clemson (away)
Won 2/3 over FSU (home)
Lost 2/3 to ND (away)
Lost 2/3 to GT (away)
Lost 2/3 to WF (home)

Not the easiest slate by any means but still notable

27-7 record at home had me nervous but their only real challenge at home was UNC and FSU (which they won both of those series). They didn't lose a home series until the last one of the year against Wake. Then you had Western Michigan, St Johns, UIC, Cal, BC, and mid-weeks with Northern KY, Bellarmine, Eastern KY, Oakland, Liscomb, Morehead St, Butler, Xavier, etc. - that makes up 23 of those 34 games. Maybe not that impressive.

I dont think you'd call it a weakness...

They just dont run any absolute dudes that you better buckle up and hope to run their pitch count up. Forbes is pretty legit...pretty sure he pitched for team USA. He is a guy who can go out and get you 10+ k's and dominate.
