PLANTATION, Fla. – Nowhere in the country are players more anxious to compete than in Broward, Dade and Palm Beach Counties in south Florida. On Sunday, several 7on7 teams showed up at American Heritage High School and players were coming out of the wood work at the chance to demonstrate their ability in a competitive 7on7 setting.

Greg Bryant was outstanding on Sunday.

The event was essentially a tryout for the South Florida Fire 7on7 team. But also present at the event were the South Florida Blur and Hard Knocks. All told, some of the top players in south Florida were at the event, and they weren’t all necessarily rising seniors.

We take a look at a few of the individual standouts in the loaded setting.

Greg Bryant, RB, Delray Beach (Fla.) American Heritage
It’s going to be hard to find a better looking running back from a physical standpoint than Bryant anywhere in the country. He was that once again on Sunday but he showed a powerful burst with the ball and good hands to boot. Currently Bryant lists an Oklahoma visit this spring as the only thing on his agenda. He has over 20 national offers and led his team to a state championship in 2011.

Will Likely, CB, Belle Glade (Fla.) Glades Central
Likely was one of the top performers in the state last fall regardless of classification. The four-star was the Palm Beach County Player of the Year and the Gatorade Player of the Year in the stat of Florida. On Sunday he was playing cornerback and showed why he is so highly regarded despite his size. Likely closes extremely quickly on the football and has phenomenal instincts as a cornerback.

Artie Burns, CB, Miami (Fla.) Northwestern
There aren’t many better looking cornerback prospects than Burns. He has long arms, an athletic frame and he can close on the football in a hurry. The Alabama commit is an elite track athlete and his speed showed up early and often on Sunday. Burns has a great cornerback frame and all the tools you could ask for out of a cornerback.

Treyon Garnett, S, Miami Beach (Fla.) Miami Beach
With early interest from Miami and FIU, Garnett should see interest turn to offers before long. At 6-0, 180 pounds, Garnett looked very comfortable covering the slot in zone coverage because of his ability to turn his hips and read routes. His ball skills looked elite as well and as an instinctual safety, Garnett looks college ready.

Chucky Williams, S, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Champagnat Catholic
On Sunday, Williams was playing primarily safety but he can line up at quarterback, cornerback, safety or receiver. Currently Williams holds offers from Purdue and Western Kentucky and plans to attend Miami’s upcoming junior day. Expect to see him continue to pick up offers, regardless of position due to his size and natural athleticism.

Devondre Powell, CB, Miami (Fla.) Jackson
Though he’s undersized, Powell was one of the top performers at the cornerback position. His physicality belies his size and Powell can also make plays against bigger receivers using his quick leap ability and hands.

Dudley-Gordon is part of a loaded 2014 class.

Marquese Dudley-Gordon, S, Weston (Fla.) Cypress Bay, class of 2014
Playing the safety position, Dudley-Gordon flies to the football and shows great range as a free safety. He has the look of a physical defender and he was an impact defensive back all season long as a sophomore on a talented Cypress Bay program.

Randy Ramsey, CB, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Dillard, class of 2014
At 6-2, 190 pounds, Ramsey looks like a safety, has safety physicality but can cover like a cornerback. Ramsey was very physical at the line of scrimmage and showed the ability to turn and run as well.

Shawun Lurry, slot WR, Palm Beach (Fla.) Inlet Grove, class of 2014
The 5-foot-8, 165-pound jet quick slot receiver prospect was one of the more impressive prospects we watched Sunday. The first team all-state receiver and defensive back lists Michigan as as his childhood favorite. He caught 22 passes for 495 yards and eight touchdowns, rushed for 312 yards on 45 carries and picked off four passes in 2011.

Clint Stephens, WR, Palm Beach (Fla.) Dwyer, class of 2014
The 5-foot-11, 176-pounder is one of the top class of 2014 receivers in the Sunshine State. He earned second team all-area in 2011 after catching 40 passes for 607 yards and seven touchdowns. He hopes to be recruited by Florida State, Oklahoma State and Miami (Fla.).

Johnnie Dixon, WR, Palm Beach (Fla.) Dwyer, class of 2014
Dixon is another talented young receiver at talent rich Dwyer. The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder caught 18 passes for 433 yards and four touchdowns in 2011 and is expected to run in the 10.7 area in the 100-meters this spring. Dixon hopes to be recruited by Virginia Tech, Miami (Fla.), Michigan State and South Florida in the future.

Jacob McCrary, athlete, Miami (Fla.) Coral Reef, class of 2014
McCrary jumped out on Sunday with his explosive break on the ball at safety and the ball skills to finish the play. At receiver, he showed impressive feet, burst off the line of scrimmage and the ability to separate out of cuts. The 6-foot-0, 175-pounder has been a star for two seasons already at Coral Reef returning four kick-offs for touchdowns in 2010 as a freshman. McCrary likes Miami (Fla.), Virginia Tech, Clemson and Oregon early on.

Derrick Tindal, CB, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Boy Anderson, class of 2014
The younger brother of former Boyd Anderson standout Corey Tindal. The 5-foot-11, 160-pounder is one of several young skill players to watch at the uber talented school. Tindal likes Florida State, Tennessee and every SEC program.

Jovon Durante, WR, Miami (Fla.) Dr. Krop, class of 2015
Durante is an impressive route runner for his age. The 6-foot-0, 170-pounder is the younger brother of 2012 FIU recruit Johnnie Durante (Dr. Krop).

Torrance Gibson, Athlete, Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage, class of 2015
Gibson is a 6-foot-4, 190-pound high school quarterback that will likely get looks at wide receiver down the line.

We have a chance to do some disgusting things in recruiting these next two years. Already 2013 looks great and with guys like Sony, Quincy Wilson etc for 2014 the future looks good.

Great stuff.

JHall is on it. Barring any unforseen happenings, this program will be reshaped and reloaded in short order.

I'm wondering how much stronger the recruiting can be if we can add another ace recruiter to compensate for the dead weight of Kehoe.

Regardless of height, I'd recruit Will Likely on name alone.

Kehoe is responsible for the talent that has come out of the St.Pete/Tampa area.
