With mostly backups on the field during that TD run, Diaz was asked today if he might tighten up the rotation and play starters increased reps.

“It might be the opposite,” Diaz responded. “Because how many guys do we have that have proven they can play at a high level? If anything we need to reduce the feeling of entitlement and guys. We need a good old competition to find out who our best guys are. The games are here - find out who is really serious about this.”

Players on Wednesday said they felt the defense won the battle against the Tigers. And Diaz, asked his take on if UM won the point of attack, responded, “Yeah, I think some of the new guys that had to play inside - I thought Pat Bethel did a good job in his first test. We saw what G (Gerald) Willis did, I thought Tito (Odenigbo) did a nice job in there, Jon Ford did a nice job in there. Anytime you have a performance you’re disappointed in, you are always going to have some bright spots. But not nearly enough. And not enough where anybody would be satisfied with our performance.”

I really don't get the hate for Diaz. Stephan mentioned it earlier but it's worth repeating - when our offense goes 3-and-out multiple possessions in a row (such as in the second quarter), it puts our defense in a tough spot and they start to get gassed. It's also why we are forced to sub a lot on defensive possessions.

The offense has to give our D a break. When they don't, games like UNC, Pitt , Clemson, Wisconsin and LSU happen. Then all of the sudden everyone hates our D without thinking about the "why" of the situation.

I think he means going forward....which is what we want in these next couple of games. Let the young kids get PT out there, esp in the secondary. Also hopefully the offense is taking this same approach.

I dont see the issue in what he said (Robert Knowles excluded. He should never see the god**** field again!!!).

Its all situational though. I have no problem with backup LBs or CBs being in the game IF THEY EARNED IT. I do have a problem if they are in the game and its 3rd and 1 with 2mins on on the clock at our 5yd line.

Manny also has to be smarter with his sub packages. You cant sub in 6 guys at a **** time Manny.....

So we won't substitute for Rosier who had 2 INTs and 40% completion percentage but we should substitute for half of our starting defense because, competition! GTFOH. That's what practice is for you assclown.

“We made a mistake on a long run and we didn’t respond to it,” Diaz said. “The whole football team. We dropped our gloves in the second quarter - offense, defense, special teams - and that to me was the most disappointing part. We didn’t look like we were very mentally tough. … In these games there’s going to be give and take. You’re not going to lose a game because you give up a touchdown in the first half to make it 10-3, but we did. Because after that point we did not respond. Above everything from the game that was the most disappointing part. For us to accomplish anything we have to show some resilience. Not the resilience to not surrender, and yes we made it a little of a game in the second half. But to respond right then and to punch right back when you get punched in the mouth. We didn’t have that. Of all disappointments, that was the biggest disappointment.”

This guy is a ******* moron. Giving guys a break is one thing. Being in season, in year three and not knowing who should start and fearing entitlement? If you have not already had the competition at this point, figured out who your guys are, you have not worked hard enough in the off season.

We are so ****ed with this staff.

gotta feeling we promised a lot of pt and if we don't fulfill those promises mtfs might transfer...we're clearly trying to keep everyone happy regardless if they're ready to play or not

I get what Diaz is saying but the LSU game was not the game for playing all of the back ups. I feel like the coaches treated this game as if it was a FCS warm up game.

Manny, Manny, Manny....in what paradoxal alternate universe does this even begin to make sense? IF they haven't been given the opportunity to prove themselves at playing at a high level, how would we know they can? Seriously... Like what is he/we waiting for?

The correct answer should have been

“I put the team in a bad position by playing guys that aren’t ready physically and/or mentally. I also made the mistake of playing multiple of these guys at the same time. We’re goingto figure out who can play on the big stage and who can’t. That’s how the rotation will be going forward.”

This makes no sense.

I hope both of our coordinators are just feeding the media nonsense about adjustments. Only what we see on the field counts.
