State of the Program Post-Shannon vs Post-Golden

Glad the Vikes got their hearts ripped out today. Can't stand Bridgewater and his damned ****y throat slashing ***. Hope he never wins anything of consequence in the NFL.

Exactly. Eff that alien looking m-f'er. I'm glad he didn't come here because it would have led to absolutely nothing of substantial consequence and actually would have probably prolonged our misery even longer.

Other than having more recruits on board. I think the program is in very similar shape.
QB: Better, but lets not act like we were not impressed with the slightly more mobile back up with better arm strength? (morris, rosier)
RB: Probably a wash, no real game breaker, but there are some solid plus level players. (mike james, yearby)
WR: Amazing low level of elite talent for where we are geographically. (coley, benjamin)
OL: a couple of talented guys, lots of penalties and terrible depth

Sounds very familiar to me. I was actually amazed when half way through the season, I said to myself. "this is just like Shannons last year. Players making tons of mental errors, weak against a power run team, no real game breakers except a WR that we force feed WR screens to, players obviously quitting on the team (blowouts) and the coach definitely getting canned."

But I do think the overall talent is higher, and the recruiting was definitely left in better shape. Though I am starting to think the new staff is going out of state because of the negativity in the local market in regards to the program. At least that was my first thought when I saw all the new offers to out of state WR.

When we fired Shannon he had Teddy Bridgewater in his pocket and his favorite receiver. We fired Shannon and lost a future NFL quarterback. Meanwhile, we got Kaaya from Golden/Coley and Brad can't seem to win the big game yet. Also, when we fired Shannon almost all of the class of 2008 left early in protest, including Olivier Vernon and others. And, if you really want to be fair, and none of you do it seems, Randy began his tenure with a beaten Kyle and no backup. Randy left Golden with a respectable amount of talent and Al didn't even try to connect with it because these were inner city guys to him that didn't match his PSU South plan. He left the local talent leave. It sent a bad message that doomed his time at UM.

Tedy wasn't the thing that doomed Shannon . Shannon was a sinking ship with that btw class. He never developed them nor anybody else on the team. It's not as if we got Bridgewater we would have been a good team.

Exactly. The Golden hiring/Shannon firing, gave him an easy way out that he was looking for. The fact he is still sticking to that excuse just shows you how entrenched he is in his own lie. He wanted to leave anyway and jumped the first chance he got. Now he still acts like he'd have stayed had Shannon not been fired? That's lame. He wanted out of that disastrous recruiting class and the coaching change gave him the legitimate reason he needed to leave.
I remember at time he was a wavering commitment before Shannon was fired.
He was taking other visits before Shannon was fired.
He even gave an interview saying he wasn't sure about UM because of the way the fans treated Jacory.
Hey maybe he would have stayed commited...but to say he was a solid commitment before Shannon was fired is not how it was.
It's history now anyway.

Shannon left a handful of upperclassmen that could hardly produce at UM. They were here one year then they ALL jumped to the NFL. Many of them as juniors. I remember some NFL people saying how many of these kids had no business declaring for the NFL early, yet they did anyway. Now, that leads us to the underclassmen he left on the roster.... You want to tell me about THAT talent? It was non-existent. There's a reason Golden had straight up garbage in the secondary in 2012. There's a reason everyone in the secondary now has started from day one. There was NO talent left there. There was even LESS left on the D-line. The recruiting in 2009 and 2010, and heading into the 2011 class, was straight up junk. Rankings be damned, there was no talent left after the 2008 class left. None.
Shannon had our roster looking like straight garbage.

I would say Golden left us in better shape

Shannon left a tone of NFL talent, I wouldn't call it gargage

I disagree RB Lamar Miller, Mike James and Storm Johnson ( Lamar Miller was and Is a game breaker) _ Shannon
QB Brad is better than anything shannon ever had _ Golden
defense _ Shannon
OL _Shannon
DBs_even

WR you had Tommy streeter, Travis Benjamin _Shannon

Golden left Miami with a better overall talent level than Shannon did when he was fired outside of the offensive line IMO. Miami has more talent at dline, linebacker, db, running back, tight end, qb and receiver then we did after Shannon

Completely agree. Some people think I was a golden "slurper" because I gave him enough time to have first class graduate. I wasn't a huge golden guy but I did ONLY BECAUSE of how terrible a coach Shannon was(and because unless inheriting a championship team I think most should graduate their first class). Shannon left this program worse than its ever been not even talking about Shapiro. Golden was left with conference USA talent. There were reports that he didn't even follow up with conditioning throughout the year (golden said it multiple times with how out of shape the team was and he said his temple team was in better condition). His recruiting classes turned out to be terrible and the majority of the NFL players he did manage to recruit never did anything respectable on campus and managed to succeed DESPITE Shannon, not because of him . 48-0 against Virginia at the farewell game in the orange bowl, whether true or not there was even reports that he sabotaged the incoming class golden had because he knew he was on the way out. He honestly single handedly killed this program, I wish nothing but the worst for him.

Just becuase a guy made the NFL doesn't mean he was good here or contributed at the U. Vernon and Ray were also suspended as apart of the Shapiro mess. Both barely did anything here. Ray Ray, McGed, robinson, vernon, henderson, ford were all bust here. But they were all physically gifted players with upside so coaches took a chance on them at the next level.

Didn't say they were good here (Miller was very good here) but these classes weren't garbage as some have said. the talent was there, coaching was the problem.

How many of those performed well WHILE At miami? That is what most of us are saying

We're a Left Tackle, LB depth, dynamic Safety, dynamic RB, solid Corner and solid WR from competing for a playoff spot next year.

We may be able to find partials of some of those on the current roster.

I'd say it's much, much better shape than 2011.

you think the DL is in that good of shape?

It's no comparison we had Olivier Vernon, Marcus Robinson and who else? Forston wasn't that good.
We have the following on the dline next year, possibly more
4star De alquadin Muhammad
5star dt/de Gerald Willis
5star Chad Thomas
4star Anthony moten
4star Kenderick Norton
3star courtel Jenkins
3star Rj mcintosh
4star demetrious Jackson
4star Scott patchan
4star Trent Harris
4star Mike smith
4star pat bethel
4star Joe Jackson

hes not comparing to shannon in that post, but to how close we are to being a playoff team.. I took that as he's saying we have a playoff caliber DL

Randy had to basically go on strike to get a sorry extension. Al was given a lifetime contract. Randy left speed on the team. Al left cows. Randy left a mess. Al left the burning ruins of rebellion. BUT, Al did leave a real QB, whereas Randy left a broken one. Dennis and Larry left messes also. Since JJ, only Butch left a gold mind. Mark is blessed one crucial element -- Kaaya.

yes the golden **** is a little bit less smellier but no doubt both laid stank asss massive turds
Yeah, that's the problem with trying to compare Golden and Shannon -- you're essentially comparing two piles of poo and trying to determine which one smells less. At the end of the day, you got your nose buried in poo. In any event, I think Golden left us in slightly better shape than Shannon. As someone noted earlier, that's part of the reason why we were so frustrated with Golden -- we shouldn't be losing to Cincinnati with the amount of talent he had.
