Maybe he cracks the lineup at guard, maybe not. O Linemen don't generally rotate like D linemen do, which makes it that much tougher to make an impact early.

Traditionally, college OL were a 3-4 year project to a degree I think. It’s the amount that he’s being paid in NIL along with his ranking out of high school. Wrong or right, and I think it’s right in his situation, given that top recruits and performers are being paid on professional levels, these expectations come with it. So if he doesn’t take a respectable step up this season, I will consider him a bust to an extent though he will still be able to change that narrative the following year making him an eventual success… and it may well go that way.

Was probably over-ranked coming out of HS. Saw them somewhat up close at Syracuse. Was one of our "smaller" OL. The movement ability is one thing, that was always apparent as a prospect but 3 years later and he still looked under-developed physically. Kid's been given every chance to earn a job. Has to want to meet the staff half way at least.

I hear what you're saying, although they are two very different points that sort of bleed together. I would counter with how many other five star OT's were first round draft picks (or even 2nd round) after three years? How many 5 star OTs were in their respective classes? I could look it up, but quite honestly, I'm fundamentally lazy and I have an agenda to push here.

I think the fairest thing you said was "if he doesn’t take a respectable step up this season, I will consider him a bust to an extent though he will still be able to change that narrative the following year..." Basically you've acknowledged that his story is still being written. It's the payday that is making some folks go nuts over his lack of playing time/development.

1. You need glasses. Samson is huge (pause). I saw him up close (big pause) after the Cal game last year. Looks like a prototypical NFL lineman. Next to Markel Bell he looks smaller....like every other human being on the planet not named Shaquille O'Neal.
2. It's been two years, not three.
3. Kid was getting some playing time as a true freshman, then hurt his knee. Might want to include that before you go making those statements about being given every chance to earn a job and has to meet the staff halfway.

You're certainly entitled to your own opinion. You are not however entitled to your own facts.

It’s 100% the payday level to me. Boosters don’t pay millions for someone who doesn’t contribute for years and consider that successful. Money changes everything, particularly with expectations. I think it’s great that they are getting paid. I think there needs to be a framework like in pro sports otherwise it’s chaos.
 
How many were in Atlanta for the bama game with manny’s canes? What were your take aways from watching both programs in person top bottom?

Mine was we are a delusional fan base..very delusional about exactly what we’re putting on the field

I assume if he is the 6th OL this year, then is all conference next season and/or again for a 5th season, you're cool with him and his payday?

And I'm not talking about honorable mention all ACC.

Yeah I am. I still think most OL take years to develop and money isn’t changing that. That’s just physical attributes from 18 to 21. I still think it’s fair criticism with the money involved but there’s just reality. If teams invest that kind of money in an OL up front, it’s a massive gamble. Same with QBs. So we have to be determined to pay big money with no returns for years and with a lot of risk. I think he could still be called an interim bust after this year if he doesn’t develop but his story won’t be written in stone until closer to the end of his time in college. I’m also disappointed in Kinsler but the money makes it seem different
 
The success of this defensive line and this team overall will depend on the development of the 2024 defensive line recruiting class. Three 5 stars and one high 4 star will have to play like it. All of the spring reports point about the three 5 stars, Scott, Blount, and Lightfoot, all having impressive springs and the 4 star, Jones, showing flashes. If these guys can take that step, this defense will be nasty.
