Star vs. Striker

Isn't the nickel traditionally more a pass defender while the striker/star needs to be a little bigger for greater run support and bigger bodies?
Yes striker is the same as star but nickel is more of a cover CB.

On run downs it is Striker or Star (Gil) but on passing downs its more Nickel (probably Couch). Unless ur UGA and u got a huge stud like Stevenson that never really needs to come off the field.

Just saw this. Winner winner. Tyrique will be the nickel corner. Stevenson won’t be coming off the field EVER. They know what they have in him and he was in this defense for two years. He’s the straw that’s stirring this drink.

Hope when they go nickel Gil will slide into a backer spot and take the Mike off the field on obvious passing downs

Steele started all of this hybrid stuff at Nebraska in 1993. Knew they were going to play the Florida schools all through the 90's. Had to do something different. Had a bunch of us younger TE's block these hybrid safeties after practice until they could hold up to the pressure of being in the box. Took all spring and fall camp but it proved itself in 94 - 99. I do not know who came up with it first.
