Stanton to the Yanks Last Straw for Marlins fans?

Definitely thankful for Ozuna for my Cards.

You’re not going to like who we took from you in 4 years though...

All we got was two decent pitching prospects, and what I consider an over-rated outfield prospect. The other pitcher was a throw in. Not a great haul IMHO. I don't like the outfield prospect at all. Don't care what he was ranked. When a guy hits .270 in the minors and only averages about 25 steals with no power, he isn't a great prospect. The ceiling is Emilio Bonafacio. If either Alcantarra or the pitcher from Chapel Hill end up as number 2 or 3 starters I'll be proven wrong, but that not a high % bet. Jeter should have held out for better quality for Marcel.

Alcantarra projects as a top of the rotation guy...and Sierra is supposedly a elite defender. You’re looking at a Denard Soan more than a Bonifacio. The guy batted .317 as a September call up

I don't pay a ton of attention to numbers from a quick call up. The kid hasn't been elite in term of speed or hitting for average in the minors and has no power. Maybe a plus contact hitter, but without speed or power you have to be a .330 hitter to get me excited. As for Alcantarra, he PROJECTS as a top of the rotation guy. Only 1 in 3 or 4 of those projections work out. Andrew Miller projected as a top of the rotation guy. Now he's the butt of a bad Marlins trade joke. I'm not encouraged by what I see in these trades. But they are re-stocking their farm system. I'm starting to get excited about the Jupiter Hammerheads 2018 season!

Andrew Miller had issues with his command and mechanics because of how long he was and Alcantarra doesn’t have those issues. I can also tell you that swiping 17 bases in 81 games is actually pretty in Double A is what you want to see because that’s where the talent is at and how aren’t you impressed that he hit .317 in the mlb when last year he was playing rookie ball?....with a .676 ops to boot? I don’t know what your issue is with these guys are but I can tell you don’t know how to follow player development.

Also these guys are already in Double A and on the 40 man. The Jupiter Hammerheads isn’t even in the same realm. It’s single A-advanced...that’s fancy for “where they put the rookies after the Gulf coast league and ten game at single A”.

**** the Marlins. They built that stadium on sacred ruins. On holy land.

No true Hurricane fan can ever forgive them for that.

I hope they lose every game they ever play, in front of an empty stadium. I want them out of Miami. Move the team or shut them down IMO.

Mods, I'd like to use all my available upvotes for the next 30 days on this post.

Thank you.

I've watched guys work their ways through the minors for 30 years. I understand player development just fine. Every year dozens of top prospects like Alcantarra flame out. It doesn't mean he will, but all you can do with a minor league player is project. And most of them don't make it. Stealing 17 bases in half a double AA season ain't squat. Guys with real speed swipe 60 a year in the minors, and then are lucky to average 30 steal a year in the bigs. Sierra has some speed, but no more then Yelich. Like I said before. Nothing to get excited over.

As for Jupiter it IS the Marlins High A affiliate. Their ladder starts with the rookie league team which also plays in Jupiter on the back fields, and the D-league team in the DR, their short season A-ball team is Batvia, their low A affiliate is Greensboro, the Hammerheads are the high A affiliate, Greensboro is the double A affiliate, and NO is the AAA. I know NONE of these prospects will end up in Jupiter That was a JOKE. About how I'm more excited about the Hammerheads than the Marlins now.

Greensboro isn’t Double A and it isn’t even low A, Batvia is low A because it’s the short season league and Jacksonville is Double A. The only guys to swipe 60 bases were billy Hamilton and Dee Gordon and Sierra isn’t even close to them speed wise...again he’s more Denard Span. You’re deflecting by saying “it’s not a sure thing”, of course it’s not a sure thing. You trade for long term potential when you blow up a team and you have no iota on player development if you’re hating on this deal because you think they’re decent when the performance track of the players and the track record of the team they got them from say different. Both Alcantarra and Sierra will be the 2 best prospects we have and it’s not even close.

No. Jacksonville. Typed Greensboro twice by mistake. From the wiki page, "The current minor league classification system divides leagues into one of five classes, those being Triple-A (AAA), Double-A (AA), Class A (Single-A or A), Class A Short Season, and Rookie. Furthermore, Class A is further subdivided into Class A and Class A-Advanced (often called Low-A and High-A, respectively), and Rookie is further subdivided into Rookie Advanced, Complex-based Rookie and international summer baseball. Under the rules governing the affiliated minor leagues (specifically Major League Baseball Rule 51), Class A Short Season is a separate classification from the other leagues bearing the "Class A" name, despite the similarity in name."

Short season is not "low A". Though it is a lower level of the minors than "low A"

I didn't say I expect lots of guys to steal 60 bases in MLB. But plenty of minor leaguers do. Heck, Bonifacio did, and has never topped 40 in a major league year, which was my point. They don't do as well in the bigs as they do playing small ball. If Sierra is only getting 30 steals per year in the minors he'd be lucky to average 20 in the bigs. To me he projects as a 4th outfielder.

I'm not deflecting at all. It's not a great trade. We didn't get 3 really good prospects. We will be lucky if 1 in 3 of these guys becomes an everyday player, never-mind a star like Ozuna.
