Stadium Not Ready?

"A six-pack of Tuesday night notes to supplement our Dolphins post from earlier:

• With Sun Life Stadium upgrades running several weeks*behind schedule and tens of millions of dollars over budget, UM athletic director Blake James said this week that UM is putting contingency plans in place in case the stadium is not playable in time for the Sept. 3 opener against Florida A&M. UM also plays at home the next Saturday, Sept. 10, against FAU.

The Dolphins said they fully expect the stadium will be ready by their Aug. 25 preseason home*opener against Atlanta on NBC but nevertheless have their own*top-secret contingency plan. Other than Marlins Park (which is hosting its baseball team on Aug. 25 but not Sept. 3),*FAU’s stadium would be the next closest option with 30,000 seats. The Dolphins also could look to a city upstate.

From a UM standpoint, FIU Stadium would be available Sept. 3. So that's one of several options. But FAU's stadium is not available Sept. 3.

It's difficult to see the Dolphins not doing everything humanly possible for the stadium to be ready, but they admit a weather disaster, such as a hurricane, could cause a delay. And there could be a delay even if there's no hurricane, because they're significantly behind schedule."

Had a feeling this would be an issue when I saw the last "progress" pictures. They have no weather excuse because it's rained about 3 times in the last 3 months. Must be some incompetent management of the project.

A construction project that's behind schedule and over budget? SHOCKING!

The ghost of Joe Robbie strikes again!

I passed by there after the spring game and expressed my thoughts that it doesn't look like it'll be ready by the season opening. Do they pro rate UM's costs?

Pretty sure they could play the Florida A&M and FAU games at the Hecht Intramural fields. I'm guessing that we'll have 20-30k in attendance for those games.

Maybe Richt will hit em with the ol' "This is a perfect example of why we need to get our own stadium" like he did for the IPF

You and me both Chise. I wasn't feeling confident with this completion. It was a pretty hefty job....plus we're dealing w Construction companies who always seem to be lower on their estimates than what the actual job cost...no matter what state I've been in, I've noticed that "error" on their part.

Plus the fact that the season opener with the new coaches should draw a little more than the average Miami/FAMU game. I'm not concerned. It'll get done. They said the same stuff last year with the first part of the renovation.

That is a ******* joke. Without seeing the lease, this sure sounds like a breach of the agreement.

Maybe this gives us an out of this ridiculous contract.

What the **** are we paying for then?! Unacceptable. Promises were made during the fundraising campaign.
