2019 4-star RB Daniel Carter has racked up 27 offers already, including one from Miami. Playing over at local powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas can come with pressure, but Carter is well-versed on what it is like to prepare on a championship level day in and day out.

“My junior year was good,” Carter said about last season. “I had 127 carries for 1000 yards and 18 touchdowns. My team did great. We fell short of the state championship this year, but I still love them boys and we’re going to play for one (a championship) this upcoming season.”

It’s that championship level of competition he sees every day that makes Carter feel confident no matter where he ends up in college. He’s not worried about Miami’s big RB haul of Lorenzo Lingard and Cam'Ron Davis from the 2018 class, and it won’t affect his final decision.

“There’s going to be competition everywhere you go. I love to compete and work hard.”

Co-offensive coordinator/RB coach Thomas Brown is Carter’s primary Cane recruiter and they’ve connected well.

“I hear from Thomas Brown, the running backs coach, the most,” Carter said. “We’re starting to build a good relationship.”

Also helping Miami? That’d be Carter’s close relationship with former teammate and current Cane WR Mike Harley. Although Carter is not far enough along in the process to name a top group, he claims Ohio State, Tennessee, Pitt, and LSU are coming after him the hardest, along with UM.

If he did have a top group though, what level of cut does he already know Miami will make?

“They’d be in my top 10,” Carter said.

So UM has to keep working Carter hard to get him aboard in this class. And to do that they’ll need to get him on campus to make him feel comfortable with the staff, players, and environment. Luckily for Miami, Carter plans just that.

“I’m planning on visiting Miami real soon,” said Carter. “I’m also working on visiting Florida, Tennessee, and LSU too.”

While he has no decision timetable at this point, Carter does know what he wants out of the program of his choice.

“A great education and somewhere that has a family environment. Somewhere I can build as a person.”

Would we even have room for him? Lots of great running backs in this class down here and to me his numeber 5. ( Cain, Sanders, McIntosh, Wright)

I have no idea what will happen here, but every one of those backs I would take over Crowley. Sorry to say that, but that's how I feel. Obviously the coaches see something different.

I agree. I never really understood that pickup but he also plays linebacker and maybe there is a possibility he moves there in a class where we need linebacker yet there doesnt seem to be any great ones

I know I will probably get negged for this but watching his highlights I saw a resemblance to Zeke Elliot when he was at OSU. The balance he ran with was impressive. A combo of him, Sanders, and McIntosh (ATH) would be a great haul.

Similar running styles but the difference is Elliot is a freak athlete and very explosive. The one thing this kid lacks is acceleration. Still he would dominate the slow Big 10, for instance.

What's the pecking order for RBs? Is it this?...

1. Sanders - possible shot
2. Cain - no shot
3. Mcintosh - great shot, but is he a RB at the next level?
4. Carter
5. Wright
6. Crowley

I think u nailed it in terms of pecking order/ talent but I can't see the staff accepting Crowleys commitment if he was really #6.
Personally I would like to land Sanders and McIntosh as the two in this class.

I'd go:
_____________________Definite Takes___________________________________
1. Trey Sanders - IMG
2. Noah Cain -IMG
3. Mark Richards*** - Wellington (Most likely counted as a Safety/WR, but if he wants to play RB first, you take him)
4. Kenny McIntosh - University School
_______________Only Takes if we miss on above_______________________
5. Nay'quan Wright - Carol City
6. Marcus Crowley - Trinity Christian
7. Daniel Carter - St Thomas Aquinas
8. Casare Mellusi - Naples
9. Keshawn King - Oakleaf
10. Charles Mincey Jr. - Dorsey (LA California)

So Imo Those top 4 are all takes no matter what, especially since Sanders, Richards, and McIntosh are athletes and can play multiple positions at a high level. Richards and McIntosh we have great shots with, and imo they NEED to be in this class. If we miss out on both Sanders and Cain, then we go to 5-7 on the list and take one of them. ....so basically if we get Richards and McIntosh, we still need one more because Richards is most likely to be a S/WR

“A great education and somewhere that has a family environment. Somewhere I can build as a person.”

That knocks out the listed potential visits sans Miami.

Hey, we make his Top 10. There is that...

Take McIntosh and Crowley commits, keep recruiting Cain and Sanders.

I think you may be underrating Crowley. He is a naturally big, productive dude who has looked athletic in the 7on7 circuit. Florida and Nebraska just offered and he will probably get a ton more when teams roll through Trinity this spring.

Don't use Rankings for these backs and your idea on the pecking order for them will change.

With that said, and with respect to Carter, I (personally) don't know what the staff see's in him over Nayquan Wright. Not my profession though

Lol at anybody who says they are looking for a great education and mention LSU.

You "can" get a great education anywhere. You just have to put in the effort.

Depending on your course of study, you can most certainly get a better education than you would at the overall higher ranked school. UM law is third in the big three here in-state. We don't top the charts as a med school either. Not in business. Marine biology, for sure. I imagine LSU is ahead at some things as well.

Overall school rankings arr great, but they aren't everything. People shouldn't confuse the two.

Lastly, the "looking for a good school" line is just recruit talk for a lot of football players in the power conferences.

Durability and size? I agree Wright was a stud early on, but now off b2b injuries including a whole season. May just wanna see how he bounces back. Weren't both injuries leg/ankle? Understandable then.
