An EE with the frame Williams has, and ability, can and will push for the starting job, especially when the front runner to win that job is a redshirt freshman. Perry basically just has a 7 month jump on him, and nothing more. No game time. No reps with the first team. He has spent his entire time here learning, and SOME of that he should have already had some grasp of.
Now, Richt might want Perry to start, and to redshirt Williams, but if Williams comes in and wins it, he will start. He didn't come here to wait 3-4 years.
No chance and stop hoping/expecting for it. If it happens it would be a miracle and would also mean Perry still isn't very good. Chances are Williams won't be ready and it will come down to him and Rosier. History tells you this is the most likely turn of events.
So, I should stop expecting/hoping for it, but 90% of the board was clinging to the hope Perry would start from day one? Sure thing, chief. Williams coming in early, and already physically ready, gives him a leg up on what and when Perry came in as. Dude has 8 full months to compete for the job, and his biggest obstacle is a redshirt freshman, yet I am to believe it's impossible?
My belief is that Perry came in so raw that it could very well take him more than one redshirt season to get up to par, and that will allow an EE like Williams to jump into the mix. But hey, what do I know?
That's exactly my point...you should learn from the mistake the majority of the board made LAST year.
TRUE freshman rarely start...and even more rarely do well. You're not even arguing with me at this point, you're arguing with history.
Yes, but let's compare the three areas and see if we can find some differences.
Time of enrollment.
Advantage, Williams. Enrolling early is HUGE for incoming players that want to play their freshman seasons. Especially at QB. It hurt Perry's chances a lot by not enrolling early, while it helps Williams.
Physical makeup.
Advantage, Williams. Dude is 6'3" 210ish already. Perry came in rail thin and needed a year to get physically ready. Williams does not.
Mental aspect.
While I can't say I KNOW Williams is coming in better prepared, it's hard to imagine a QB coming in less prepared by his high school coaches than Perry. By watching their film, I see Williams going through progressions and finding the right guy. I saw Perry playing street ball. Albeit, he was **** GOOD AT IT. You can see his potential, without a doubt.
Bottom line. All the reasons I believed Perry had very little chance of playing his freshman year, I don't see with Williams. Again, that's just my opinion.
LOL...dude you are reaching.
I disagree. To the highest extent possible that it is possible to disagree with another human being.
This program NEEDS Perry to be good, that we Rosier returns to being a backup and Williams redshirts and we gain some separation between him and Perry.
