I didn't even know there was a family barbecue today. I just came by to watch practice. I get there, and there's hundreds of people on the field and I'm like 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️

Few notes...

*Couch is really coming into his own. He's by far our most technically sound DB. His press man skills are awesome. Spoke to his dad for a while. Let's just say, everybody is glad that Manny is gone. With these new coaches, Couch can now play his game. He's comfortable and feeling rejuvenated. Look for a solid season.

*Chaminade boys looked good today. Haye is starting to make a few plays and Thad was toting the rock hard today. Second practice in a row that I've seen solid performances from these two.

*Steele went with some 3 Safety looks with Blades, Huff and Tae playing deep. Huff got his pic while playing middle deep third.

*X murders people in one-on-ones. He be cooking Blades a$$ especially. He had a case of the dropsies today though. (in scrimmage period) Killed DB's to get open but then let a couple go through his hands.

*Ladson is not a guy IMO. He did make a nice contested catch today but other than that, he leaves a lot to be desired at times.

*Keontra had a nice interception. I love his game.

*Avantae is just a plain stud. He sticks out to me.

*Some of us have been saying it for a while, and a few of y'all don't want to hear it, but James Williams is not a deep Safety.🤷🏻‍♂️ Steele is using him properly though (IMO). I saw him near the LOS a lot today, covering TE's. He's a good player, but he has to be utilized correctly. He needs to be moved around.

*Dare I say it, but Arroyo might be an early round draft pick at TE. He's a **** stud and really stands out.

*Defense got a lot of pressure on the QB's today. It also looked like Steele may have put in some new wrinkles within the last week. Anytime a new coordinator arrives, you have to spoon feed the players.

*A lot of people around Greentree think that Jacurri and Skinner are going to be special. They stick out for sure. We got some young pups on this team (Brown, Skinner, Moss) who I'm really excited about. I can't wait to see their development.

*I actually spoke to an assistant coach about this, but one of the things that struck me is how bare we are on the front-7 in terms of talent. I don't know WTF Manny was doing, but more than half of those kids don't even look the part. They don't even look like someone you'd want walking off the bus when you're about to play an ACC component. So many of them are either too short, too stumpy, too fat, too skinny, too stiff, etc. That stuck out to quite a few people I spoke to today.

*My last point is why I want us to calm our expectations. We still need a couple recruiting classes to even look like a Miami team on OL, DL, LB and CB.

*You know the culture here is special when you have legends like Bain and Ed Reed wearing aprons and serving barbecue. I literally had the greatest Safety of all-time serve me barbecue chicken today and I stood 2 feet next to Alonzo Highsmith while I ate it. If I wasn't such a fat a$s I would have framed that piece of chicken instead of inhaling it.

*I spoke to more UM coaches in the past week than I did in 4 years under Manny. And the more I go around Greentree, the more stories I hear about that pompous cornball. Good riddance.

Good stuff as always.. Been saying it for a couple years now but the talent drop off in front 7 is crazy.. Last year before bama where we were moving smaller guys up was like wtf.. How do we have Flagg (great guy I am sure) be starting and he is small AND slow at UM?! WTF is going on?! Like if you small atleast be fast as **** and hit hard.. I still remember the "but can he play DT?" Meme we had with Golden, and sure a s**** with a lil luck he finally built a decent dline by the time he left, Diaz walked into a good situation and hit on Rousseau and Phillips fell from heaven.. After that drove the dline off a ******* cliff.. LB was a mess, never hit on one player after inheriting Shaq and co.

Its embarrassing with our LB tradition to not even know what a LB looks like at UM right now.. Mario will get it right because he values the trenches but sheesh.. Its gonna be tough to build them units up cause they take time and need seasoning.. LOL @ we actually have fans expecting skinny Moss and injured Kelly to start a feshman in trenches, gives them young bulls time to develop..

Couch probably heard Porter was coming to take his lunch, boy said lemme get a head start before he get on campus! lol.. That boogie man can sometimes motivate a cat, especially when transfer has prior relationship with position coach.. We just need to find 2 up to task corners to play off of stevenson..

So you saying James can’t play deep safety? ….

I don’t see elite with LT. Hope he proves me wrong. Seems like a tweener. Not big enough for DT and and not explosive/twitchy enough for DE in a 3-4.

There I said it. Can be a very solid player but I don’t see all-American NFL talent.
Taylor? #56?! Dude is 6'3 305 true freshman! WTF?! Boy wasnt even supposed to see the field in a real program, ya gotta chill lmaooo

Listen I know we still need to recruit at a higher level, and I know we need more talent all over to be a top 5-7 program and compete for playoffs and titles.

People keep bringing up the DL, LB, and CB but remember we are down:

Roberts
Moultrie
Ugude
Kelly
Chase Smith
Stevenson
Porter
Graves
Harris

I think there is a chance all of these guys play and many of them start. If you add them to the defense it looks a lot different. Not where we can get to with Mario through big time recruiting, but greatly improves that chance of 8-10 wins and Coastal.

I been telling people since it was rumored he was coming here that people need to lower their expectations about Ladson...

And like many of us have said, James Williams is Swiss Army knife, you use him all over the field just like Isaiah Simmons, Derwin James, Hamsam Nasirildeen, Jayron Kearse etc.. Just like how Steele used Jamien Sherwood at Auburn or when he had Jamal Adams at LSU.

Ladson will probably shake out as deep threat.. Which we will need. People have talked about his speed standing out and when given a chance he can get behind the defense..

I think Keyshawn & Brashard will probably be the Deep threat guys, in terms of speed they’re the two fastest WR’s.

Jacolby George can stretch the field as well he has good speed.

Ladson probably maximizes his ability as a Red zone threat given his height, he can play the Lawrence Cager role. I’ve never known him to be necessarily a burner in terms of pure speed but maybe he’ll finally show that aspect of his game if it’s there.

How much of it is Taylor struggling vs the o line stepping up ? Either way LT gonna get pushed to tale it up a notch or two which will do nothing but benefit all parties.
It’s him. He played extremely high last year too.

Give it time. He hasn’t played in a year and it was an abdomen injury if I remember correctly. He’ll definitely contribute. He wasn’t Clemson’s No. 2 for no reason.
Even when he was healthy he was primarily used as a decoy for Clemson.

He still hasn’t played up to his capability since HS, if injury is the only reason then him being completely healthy now shouldn’t hinder him from excelling right now given how unproven & wide open the WR competition is.

I think he can carve out a solid role, but if the expectation is high productivity I’m not so sure he has that in him.

That can’t be right. @Stevo365 says he’s a safety all the way and us couch coaches are wrong.
