Spring Spring PractiSe 13: Tuesday April 8

Funny you mention that game, it was on few weeks ago on SEC network.

Game was tied 3-3 middle 2nd UGA driving around Texas 30, Carson throws an absolute strike to WR on an in route around 8 yard line, perfect strike, WR drops it. UGA would have been first and goal inside 10, instead it was 3rd and medium, Texas gets inside pressure and Beck throws incomplete on next play, so UGA settles for a FG.

Then before half, UGA gets ball back maybe around own 35-40 Beck drops back and launches a deep ball down right sideline, couldnt have placed ball any better, WR drops it. UGA would have had ball maybe around Texas 18-20 yard line. Instead few plays later is when Carson scramble and gets hit from behind, and suffers injury.

2 drops from being 9-13 for 130 ish yards, and UGA maybe up 13-3 at halftime.
Crazy how when you watch the game, you can actually see a huge difference in how aggressive the coaching staff was with the starter and how dialed back they got with the backup.

U must of just started watching college football....please let me know how Saban, Smart, Meyer, Day, Franklin run practice.

Based on your logic, everyone is invited every practice all day.

Good luck on your search
Went to my first Miami game in 1975, so no I'm not new and I'm not saying they should broadcast every practice on TV, but allowing some limited access isn't equal to giving away nuclear secrets, it's football for goodness sakes.

No horse in this, but I suspect Mario is trying to get the team focused more than he's specifically worried about leaks in strategy. I'm sure there's some of that, too. But IMO it's more about avoiding distractions.

"The players believe in Gunner (Stockton). They love Gunner. The juice that he brought and the passion and energy," said Georgia head coach Kirby Smart on Stockton after the game.
And yet when our coaches show a player love, we claim that Mario is blowing smoke up our collective as*es.

How do you know this isn’t the same thing. Personally, I don’t know why you are so worked up about Gunner Stockton. Maybe he will be great, but who cares. And who is his backup, and how is he? What happens to UGA if Stockton gets hurt? Is the player behind Stockton better than Emory? Because that would be the relevant question to this seemingly never ending discussion.

We can go on all day with ifs and buts. For example, if my aunt had balls, she would be my uncle. But she’s not.

I was clearly talking about last year, and Stockton was a legit back up compared to what Miami had last year, if Stockton would of played like Emory played in the bowl game, UGA doesn’t win that game

The poster that claimed 95% of teams being in trouble if their starter went down was a bull**** lie

It’s not that we have great backups. It’s that most teams don’t either. Our season potentially going into the tank if our starting quarterback gets hurt isn’t unique to us.

Here’s something else to ponder. Had Emory Williams not played in the bowl game would we be having this discussion at all? Half the board would be mad that they signed Beck instead of giving Williams a chance. One bad performance can completely change how the public perceives a player. We went from “he beat Clemson and was driving us to beat FSU” to “he’s not an FBS quarterback” in one half of a football game.

For the record, I was never a big fan but there’s definitely a bunch of random backup quarterbacks out there that fans are confident in who haven’t done anything to earn any confidence.
there's a big debate going on about this on Ferman's board. He blames Dawson and says he wasn't prepared. He says Emory is better than he looked. He's taking pages, and pages of heat for the comment.

I've said since the Clemson game - I was there- that Emory didn't beat Clemson, the defense did. But Emory didn't lose the game, either. There IS a difference. He was not asked to do much any time he was in the game. (including FSU) There's a reason for that...

I know people love to criticize Dawson's playcalling in the Iowa State game when Emory came in, but remember Iowa State was AWFUL against the run last season, and really good against the pass.

Ranked #109 vs. the run
Ranked #1 vs. the pass

If you knew this, and you were the OC, what would you call mostly with a QB that hadn't played but in one game all season with backup WR's that hadn't played much either.

I agree with everything your’e saying bro I was being sarcastic, ppl on here preaching gloom and doom on our season based on our backups having to win us games when in reality **** near every team in CFB sans a select few will be screwed if their starting QB went down..but for some reason our fans expect us have ballers/good QBs riding the pine if our starter goes out when really that’s a luxury few teams have. Most backups will look underwhelming compared to the starter lol duhh

I’ve made the same argument when people here tried to crown him in 2023. He didn’t lose the game for us against Clemson but he didn’t win it either. He’s always struck me as a guy you could play in a pinch and he won’t totally crap the bed but he was never starting quarterback material. ****, the bowl game made me question whether he was even a reliable emergency quarterback.

Whether or not Dawson thought he was a capable starter is probably debatable. The media reports all said the coaches loved him but they still signed two transfer quarterbacks last year and they were already kicking the tires on John Mateer before they even played the bowl game so I’m hesitant to actually believe Dawson and Mario were willing to ride with him.

& fasho saw a post where Dante Moore is projected around 4th or 5th in heisman odds by Vegas based off nothing but his HS rating n being on Oregon’s roster.

Right. The conclusion either way is that he’s not and should not be Miami’s starter.
