I think diaz is trying to use smith and finley like he was planning on using grace at sam. Undersized guys at LB but they have more speed and are asked to do more in coverage.

I wouldn't be suprised if they don't move zach to mike or will next year if shaq or mike leaves early.

Can we PLEASE just make the transition to a 4-2-5 base? It's not 1996 anymore. There's rarely a need for three linebackers on the field at one time.
This is diaz version of a hybrid 4-3/4-2-5 defense. At miss st. he had a in the box ss that had some size and moved him to sam. It isn't really a true 4-2-5 but it will be a bigger safety or undersized speedy LB playing sam.

Starting to get some nice depth on D at LB & DB. By the way. There’s a better chance of my dog starting vs LSU then Knowles. So just ignore that.

True. There may be games where a base 4-3 is warranted like GT, not sure who else, but everyone else is spreading us out. We have some big fast corners and some fast yet physical safeties now so I say go with the 4-2-5.

What did the o line look like today? Jones still in?

**LATE EDIT: In the interview portion after practice, the offensive line stayed on the field to hit the sleds after everyone already left (Tre Johnson was not present). The depth chart was:

First Team: St. Louis - Jones - Gauthier - Donaldson - Brown
Second Team: Herbert - Scaife - Gaynor - Mahoney - Hillery
Third Team: Campbell - Milo - Dykstra
