Help me understand...

Do we not have enough currently on the roster?

Why are we still Portal shopping at this juncture?

I know this wasn’t directed to me but I don’t think we have enough. Especially, on defensive side. I also hope for some big ones on the offensive side.

Can Mario close these deals? We whiffed in the past many times with some big names because we refused to pay big $. I think Mario’s adjustments this year and new influencers have helped his cause. Let’s see what happens.

The spring game experience yesterday was phenomenal! It was the day before my son’s 7th birthday and we had an incredible time. First, we got to get a Canes helmet and a football signed by the entire 2025 squad inside the IPF and all of the players were super nice. Then we got to meet Canes legends like Edgerrin James, Michael Irvin, Vince Wilfork, Rohan Marley, Duane Starks, William Joseph, DJ Williams, Mike Rumph, Earl Little, and Coach Damione Lewis and all of them were kind enough to sign my UM legends helmet that only had Cam Ward and Xavier Restrepo on it to begin the day. Then we were able to get photos on the field after the game with Beck, Bain, and Trader and Bain handed my son his game worn gloves for his bday! Unbelievable day. Love our school and this team and now we’ve just got to find a way to make the playoffs this year! GO CANES

I do think from a talent standpoint, as presently comprised, we're good - relative to ACC opponents. Of course, in football injuries play a major role. And now additionally portal departures. I don't see a 'desperate' need anywhere (except kicking concerns?).

Safety and DT are thin, but if coached up you can get by, and perhaps thrive with the versatility of moving CB's (shockingly deep) to S, and DE's situationally to DT. And both positions have young talent that could emerge.

You guys didn’t miss much. This game was nearly cancelled but they decided to stick with it. Many players didn’t play and you can tell there was minimal effort.


The best and the most important part of spring is next Wednesday. Hang on to your butts.

Obviously we are gonna hit the portal but right now we have the 2nd best roster in the ACC. If we really dove in there might be some debate about us and Clemson but I don’t know enough about them

I keep reading that since Mario has taken over the roster has flipped

So portal or no portal we should be a playoff contender right now

Spring portal should simply be for getting us over the hump then

I don’t think they need that much. Starting caliber wr, starting LB, starting safety. Spring window is usually weak so we will see what happens

I’m just glad the days of CIS Genius material ****ting on the portal are over as there are multiple threads talking portal usage…

I'd bet the declaration to the public will be Emory but behind the scenes the optimism is Nickel.

I maintain the position that Emory will be QB2 for the ND game with the goal of redshirting Nickel.

One of the issues with QB development this season is the strength of schedule. We only have one true "freebee" game (Bethune Cookman). Our other out of conference games are USF & UF. We might pull away from USF late. The only other possibility to get some QB2/QB3 reps is the home game against Stanford at the end of October.

Which is why you make it official and make Nickel QB2. Give him the reps in the very few scrub games we'll get. Emory and or Judd transfer, and you bring in a FCS/G5 kid who wants to study under Dawson (and Beck) for a year while getting paid a little.
