Spicer

Special teams are rough right now ... baxa can’t kick it out of the end zone. Spicers one punt looked like if you gave that punt to any other player on the team and they didn’t shank it

Too be honest I don’t know how feagles wasn’t blocked when they sent the house on him and I’m more shocked we didn’t call a timeout because we were totally outschemed on that punt it’s a miracle that didn’t get blocked
You obviously don’t watch the games. Baxa kicks them out regularly. 1-2 a game have been returned.

Bax is not an issue on KOs. He has plenty of leg and gets touchbacks more frequently than not. If he doesn't manage a TB, he usually kicks it right at the goal line or a step before, which is EXACTLY where you want to kick it if you want your KOR coverage to have a chance at making a big hit. Just wish he'd get a little more air under it.

But you legit said he can’t kick them out. Not every kick is going to be out of the endzone. He’s doing good enough.

The announcers said Feagles but it was Spicer.

I wasn’t listening to the announcer, I was at the game. Now I would admit, I could be wrong, because I never saw the number, but he looked like Feagles to me and I asked around where I was sitting and everybody said Feagles. If I missed that I missed that, I just thought it was definitely Feagles on the second

I'll take no hang time over a shank any day. We have gunners with speed to cover no hang time.

It wasn't. My seats are right in front of the kickers net on the sideline, and Feagles was standing there. The stadium announcer messed up.

I’m talking about the game announcer. I was there too. That’s why everyone was confused. People in our section were booing but was was Spicer 100%.

Spicer lays one down inside the 20 and you guys are acting like he is JAG.

Not sure what to make of this. You are surprised posters think the walk-on with one OK punt is Just Another Guy, rather than a potential All-American? If your point is he has not yet reached JAG status I guess I follow you.

Another indictment of the lack of an effective player development program.

Think about this, how many other top teams are having a discussion about punting? Field goal kicker I get it--range, accuracy, etc. but the punting unit? This much discussion on essentially an automatic at least "good enough" play and unit personnel?

Hartley might be a great recruiter, but this unit of his is failing and flailing.

This is not the Miami standard.
Alabama has had a kicker problem for the longest this is the first year in a while they might have someone actually good.

I've been saying this for a couple of years. Our "formation" or our "method" of blocking is terrible. About half of our punts look like they were ALMOST blocked. I don't understand the methodology behind "let's give wide gaps between blockers" that allows the defense to get momentum from shooting the gaps. Or if I DO understand the methodology (I believe it is supposed to allow our blockers to read-and-react to the rushers and move around as necessary), we are certainly EXECUTING the plan worse than just about any team in the country.

I have seen teams with tight formations prevent the defenders from getting close. I have seen teams with wide formations prevent the defenders from getting close. I would prefer to see a tight formation, because you tend to have fewer guys having the speed/momentum to get close to the punter.

What is wrong with a tight formation with TWO mid-deep blockers who could either block a free runner from the perimeter or stop a guy who manages to break free up the middle? THREE is too many.

Feagles is clearly rattled by all the pressure. Sure, he needs to learn how to handle pressure better. And he is not a BAD punter, he is an INCONSISTENT punter. Spicer wasn't much better.

But our special teams suck. Outside of having an other-worldly return guy like Jeff Thomas run past everyone, our blocking schemes on our kickoff returns, punt returns, and punting teams SUCK. The only thing we manage to do with any consistency is kick FGs and PATs.

Oh, and by the way, over the past couple of years we have had a TON of short punts that landed inside the 20 because we have struggled on 3rd down and we haven't had a guy who can kick 60 yard FGs. So let's not forget about that, either, when the Nintendo All-Americans try to analyze our average punting yardage.

.

For the people *****ing about hang time. You don't need great hang time to be a solid directional kicker.

Coffin corner ftw.
